At just nineteen, Lee Minho's life looks nothing like he imagined. Instead of college, late nights with friends, or chasing his own dreams, he's raising his four-year-old nephew, Jeongin. After his sister's struggles and Jeongin's father's absence...
"Minhooooo," Chan peeked his head into the kitchen, the latter perked up at the mention of his name. "Yes?" Chan entered the chaotic bakery kitchen cautiously as he made his way to Minho. "There's someone at the front register area asking for you," Minhos brows knit together, who was here for Minho? It was still only ten in the morning. "Okay." Minhos nodded briefly before exiting the kitchen.
"Why hello, Min," That voice. warm, teasing, slightly deeper than his own voice. Shit, it's totally Jisung.
Minho slowly lifted his gaze from his scuffed up sneakers to the handsome, familiar male in front of him. "What are you doing here?" He tried to sound annoyed but the reddening edges from the shell of his ears gave him away. "I feel so welcome," Jisung deadpanned, "I came here to see you, obviously." He said coolly, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. Which it was. Just not to Minho.
"No, I mean—ugh. Well...don't you have a class right now?" Minho asked awkwardly, Jisung's smug grin softened, "Well, it's nothing I haven't learned before. So... I thought I'd come by and we could, I don't know...do something?" Jisung sounded unsure. Which was weird, very different from his usual confidence. Minho thought for a moment.
"Well work is pretty flexible now... I guess. And I would like to spend time with Jisung. Ugh, but why do I still feel so flustered around him?! We've known each other for a bit now, I shouldn't still feel all giddy like a teenager in love." Minho thought to himself.(Uhm, buddy. You still are a teenager. Well atleast it feels like you are... ALSO HYAHYA KEP1ER REFERENCE!!)
"Uhm, sure...I guess,"
"Cool. So, when do you get off work?"
"I can call out right now." Minho offered hesitantly, his boss liked him enough to spare him one day, right?
Minho walked back into the kitchen, searching for Chan. He sighed in relief when he caught sight of the blonde making some muffins. "Chan, he's here! And I don't know if I should call out for the day and hang out with him or not." Minho huffed in frustration, "Oh my god, he's so perfect. It's not fair."
Chan smiled warmly, "I'll take your shift for today, mate. It's all good, go hang out with mister handsome." Minhos face reddened, but he smiled shyly, "Thanks, Channie-hyung. I'll pay you back, don't worry," Minhos gratitude sparked a little chuckle from the other, he clapped Minho on the back, making Minho stumble a little. "No need, that's what friends are for."

"What do you want to do?" Minho asked, trailing behind Jisung, "I don't know, let's just...walk, talk?"
"Okay," Minho took place beside Jisung, their steps falling into sync. (*NSYNC 😈) "Cool..." Silence swallowed them whole after that. Awkward. Very, very awkward...
"How are you?" Jisung asked randomly after a few minutes of walking in the quiet. "What?" Minho was taken aback, he looked up at the latter, expression: confused. "How are you, lately. And I want the real answer, not the 'I-Don't-Need-Your-Help' answer." Minho was quiet for a bit.
'How was he? He was still struggling without Jeongin, yes. But he was finding a rhythm now, not one he enjoyed very much... but it was a start. He was... okay.'
"I'm... okay," Jisung stayed silent, giving the smaller boy a chance to talk. "I guess, I haven't realized it. But... I'm managing." That was the truth. Minho wasn't happy, no, but he was doing better. And that was a great start. Jisung smiled, not cocky, not smug, a genuine soft smile. Minho was getting it together, and that's all Jisung wanted to hear. "Good," after that they went back to listening to the crunching of the gravel beneath their feet. Not talking. Now it wasn't awkward. It was comfortable. Minho didn't notice, but having someone check in on him. Make sure he was okay. Was big. And knowing Jisung cared enough to ask, even if they weren't super close. Made Minho beyond grateful.
