One that got away

You'd been best friends with Debra Morgan and her brother Dexter for years now, it used to be just you 3 in high schools, you have had feelings for Dexter for years but could never confess then due to him being with his future wife Rita who was carrying their child together.

I was sat on my couch just mindlessly watching whatever was on the TV and drinking a cheap energy drink trying to get motivated to do something with my day off, you looked around your small ish apartment the way you had decorated it with different post cards of where I had been on holiday and long with different types of art all over the walls, the handmade cherry blossoms tree I  had in my living room was the main master piece, made from butcher paper from the main trunk of the tree and cute pink flower fairy lights hung from the top, making it feel magical, it had taken days to make and place all together but I'd loved it. As I was about to get of the couch to wonder about my apartment I'd gotten an text from Rita.

Rita
'Hey I'm sorry to ask this of you, but can you pick the kids up and look after them for a while? I need to go to the hospital for a check up, Dexters at work and will be back about 7pm'

Me
'Yes of course! I'm happy to help, I'll get the kids you go take care of yourself and hoping everything is okay'

Rita
'You are a life saver thank you so much'

I looked over to the clock on the wall and seen it was only 14:45 and the school finishes at 15:00 so I had 15 minutes to get ready and pick the kids up, I moved off the couch and threw on some black flares with some pink hearts on them, along with a baggy top that has the collar cut off quickly brushing my hair and making sure I looked presentable, I looked okay I quickly threw my beat up but comfortable shoes and headed out the house, making sure to grab my phone, keys, car keys and my wallet. I left my home making sure the door was locked and rushed to the car, getting in and starting my car.

I made it to the kids school in time of them coming out, I honked my horn at the kids and got out to make sure they seen me, both Aster and Cody bolted towards me with big smiles on their faces

"{Y/N}!! What are you doing here?!" Aster yelled at me whilst coming in for a hug, same with Cody

"I'm here to pick yous up and watch you whilst your mum is at an appointment" I said smiling at them and hugging them back. I opened my back doors for the kids to get in whilst I moved to the back of my car and got a booster seat from the boot of my car for Cody, one I grabbed it I closed the boot and handed it to him, he gave me a sad look

"Do I have to?" He asked pleadingly

"Unfortunately yes you do" I said playfully at him whilst ruffling his hair, he moved so I could place it down and I made sure both kids where buckled into my car before I got into the driver seat and started the car and began driving the kids home.

Once we had reached the kids house I parked on the drive way and helped the kids get out and used my spare key I was given to enter the house, the kids threw their bags down and ran for the couch whilst fighting over the tv remote, I couldn't help but just giggling at the sight in front of me, I closed the door behind me making sure to lock it and picked up both kids backpacks and walked over to the couch and placed the bags on the table

"Now now, before we get tv time who's got homework to get done?" I had asked them, they both looked at me then back at each other trying to contemplate if they should try and lie to me about not having any homework, both said that the do and I'd asked them to take their homework out and to start doing it and if they needed any help I would help them, Aster went through to their shared room to start on her homework in there whilst Cody stayed in the living room needed some of my help.
