Like every morning, the kitchen smelled of warmth and home. Jay stood near the stove, rolling out the dough and slipping golden rounds into the sizzling oil. The soft crackle filled the room as the kachoris puffed up, their surface turning crisp and brown.
Perched on the wooden kitchen counter was his little fairy, Jungkook, swinging his legs back and forth as his wide eyes followed the frying pot with deep concentration. Every time the oil bubbled higher, he licked his lips unconsciously, making Jay chuckle under his breath.
“Koo, if you keep staring like that, the kachoris will get shy and refuse to cook,” Jay teased, flipping one carefully with the spatula.
Jungkook giggled, but his gaze never wavered. “Papa, they look so yummy already…” His voice came out in a soft whine, and Jay reached over to tap his nose lightly.
On the other side of the stove, the small steel pot of tea boiled gently, the rich fragrance of cardamom and ginger wafting through the air. For Jay, there was nothing better than crispy hot kachoris with a steaming cup of chai—it was comfort, it was tradition, it was love served on a plate.
And for Jungkook, it was simply happiness—watching his papa cook, waiting for the first bite of his favorite treat, knowing that everything he loved in the world was right here in this little kitchen.
Jungkook sat cross-legged on the kitchen counter, his clean face glowing softly in the morning light, long strands of hair swaying as he leaned forward. His wide eyes never strayed from the plate his papa was preparing, sparkling with the kind of innocent hunger only a child could carry.
In front of him, Jay stood by the stove, carefully lifting one piping hot kachori from the pan. He blew gently on it, sending little puffs of air until the steam thinned, then tore off a piece. His calloused fingers held it with surprising delicacy, as though even food needed to be softened before it touched his fairy’s lips.
“Open your mouth, Koo,” he murmured.
Jungkook obeyed instantly, parting his lips with a shy giggle before accepting the bite. The crunch echoed faintly in the quiet kitchen, and his doe eyes sparkled as the flavors bloomed on his tongue. “Mmm… Papa! So yummy!” he exclaimed, cheeks puffed adorably as he chewed.
Jay’s tired eyes softened, lighting with quiet pride. He tore another piece and lifted it up, his knuckle brushing tenderly against Jungkook’s cheek before slipping the bite into his waiting mouth. “Slowly, bun,” he teased, though his voice carried nothing but warmth.
Beside them, the chai bubbled over on the other stove, filling the air with its sweet, spiced aroma. But Jay hardly noticed. For him, the real fragrance of home was right here—his son’s laughter, his little hums of delight, and the trust shining in those wide eyes every time he opened his mouth for another bite.
