A beautiful house stood in the heart of the village-not too small, not too large, but graceful in its simplicity. Its front yard bloomed with flowers, a handpump standing proudly beside patches of fresh vegetables. The concrete wall was veiled in a creeping vine of loki, intertwined with the soft pink and blue blossoms of morning glory. Gentle rays of the rising sun fell across the courtyard, casting a quiet, majestic glow.

The stillness of dawn was broken by the steady footsteps of a man emerging from the house. He walked to the handpump, filled a bucket with practiced ease, and first tended to the plants before cutting a few vegetables, placing them neatly on the solid courtyard floor. Returning to the pump, he filled the bucket again and bathed there in the crisp morning air.

By the time he finished, the village remained hushed, only a few souls awake at such an hour-4:30 a.m. Dressed now in a plain yellow kurta and white dhoti, he stepped back into the house. Moving softly through the dim rooms, he pushed open a door to find a small figure fast asleep on the wide bed.

The child had sprawled across most of the mattress, legs curled up to his chest, the cotton sheet twisted tightly around his body. A long braid spilled over the pillow, stray baby hairs brushing against his face. The faint yellow light from the window painted him in a gentle glow, making his sleeping form seem almost ethereal. His milky skin glistened, long lashes kissed his cheeks, and his rosy lips pouted slightly as a thin line of drool escaped the corner of his mouth.

The man's heart softened. He walked closer, carefully untangled the sheet, and tucked it back around the boy with quiet tenderness. Bending down, he smoothed a hand over the silky strands of hair and pressed a kiss to his forehead.

"My little fairy looks so adorable while sleeping... Ah, what am I saying? My Koo is always adorable." His voice was a hushed whisper, meant for no one but the child. "Sleep well, baby. Papa will be back soon, alright? Papa's Jaan."

He kissed the boy's forehead once more, lingered for a heartbeat, and then straightened

He kissed the boy's forehead once more, lingered for a heartbeat, and then straightened. Gathering his shovel and spade, he stepped out into the fading silence, making his way toward the fields.
