The hidden room smelled of old wood and iron. Candles flickered, casting uneven light across the walls, revealing old maps and strange symbols. Reina sank onto a dusty chair, trembling.

"Why me?" she asked. "Why am I marked?"

He studied her, his eyes shadowed with pain. "Because you carry the Shard," he whispered. "A fragment of power that can tip the balance of this city. Shadows sense it—they hunt it relentlessly."

"The Shard?" Her mind raced. "I don't understand."

"You will," he said, handing her a tattered notebook filled with sketches of symbols and monstrous silhouettes. "These aren't just shadows—they are hunters, born from the darkness of human fear. And they've been waiting for you."

A noise upstairs made them freeze. Heavy steps, deliberate and ominous, echoed through the floorboards. The man drew a dagger glowing with faint light. "We don't have much time."

Reina's heart hammered as the door creaked open. A figure appeared, cloaked in shadow, its face hidden. A whisper slithered into the room: "Give her to us..."

The man tightened his grip on her hand. "Run!" he yelled.

The chase resumed, but this time, Reina felt the power within her stir—a warmth in her chest, pulsing like a heartbeat. She wasn't just running. She was fighting.
