Sadie Clayton had known something was different about her for her entire life. It wasn't something she could put a name to, her finger on. A gift to perceive the world in ways others could not, see things others couldn't. Or perhaps a curse.
Nightmares and apparitions and air like cold fingers on the back of her neck, it was something she wished would go away. But it was always there, lurking on the edges of her mind.
Fearful of touch, of the brush of skin against skin, she remained distant. Afraid. Deflecting her fear and longing behind a mask of humour or coldness depending upon the day, upon who she was speaking to. She couldn't let anyone see how much she wished for touch, to be held, for the world to go quiet when she touched instead of getting louder.
Connor is an android. An Android with a simple task: discover the source of the deviant threat and remove it. An efficient machine, designed to follow orders. A prototype, stronger and deadlier and entirely unique to other androids.
Except nothing's ever simple, because he faces cruelty and kindness in equal measure, and he finds himself searching for the eyes of those who are gentle with him for reassurance in a way he knows androids are not supposed to do.
But that doesn't matter as long as he can accomplish his mission and return to Cyberlife. As long as he can please Amanda.
