Nevermore's gala was filled with girls with nice dress and nice style, while hot handsome boys with fancy masked walked them along. Sweet as sugar and perfect like a flawless diamond. Laughter echoing and glass clinking
Eugune stood outside, his back leaning against the rocky statue. He wore a fancy red suit with a straight white collar, his wrist had orange puffs along with red gloves. Eugune was holding an giant empty jar, his grip feeling loose for a specific reason. But he held is desperately, almost as if he was going to catch something.
He wanted to search for moths, the one that would hint back to Slurp. Pugsley's "pet" or whatever name he went by on now.
But the thought alone just made his stomach twist.
Where was he? He felt on edge just thinking about him. Chills went down his spine, he felt like as if he was watching him right now. But he brushed off his shoulders, though it was heavy he sighed his way
As he waited impatiently, eyes scanning everywhere, foot tapping impatiently. Someone slipped in. Pugsley.
Pugsley stepped outside the gala, holding his black and white jester hat. His expression was unreadable, but he didn't look satisfied. He noticed Eugune laid back against the wall, half crouched, and decided to ask.
"Have your moths reported back yet on Slurp?"
Pugsley said, his voice almost desperate. Eugune blinked, then looked to his right. He stood up, a sigh of disspointment of what seems escaping his mouth.
"No."
Eugune said. Then contuined
"Why aren't you inside with your family?"
He raised an eyebrow, curious. Pugsley shrugged.
"Doubt they'd even notice."
Pugsley muttered, his voice low. Then slipped out, walking away slowly. Eugene watched him go, throat tight. For weeks, months, even he had held himself apart, colder than he used to be, walls built out of trauma he never meant to project.
Watching Pugsley's back retreat into the dark pressed a knot of guilt into his chest.
"Wait-"
The word left before he could stop it. Pugsley slowed, glancing back.
Eugene shifted the jar in his hands, awkward, then sighed.
"I'm... Sorry. For not being much of a friend. I'll come with you. Just... so you're not alone."
He didn't say more-didn't know how. But his feet carried him forward, falling into step beside Pugsley.
Pugsley's expression softened. Just slightly. But it was enough.
"Thanks."
Together, the two slipped further from the glow of the gala, heading toward the graveyard shadows.
High above, on one of Nevermore's balconies, a figure leaned lazily against the railing. Isaac watched, expression unreadable, as his moths traced the air around him like smoke. His lips curled faintly before he pushed away from the stone, melting back into the night.
"Two for the charm."

IN THE FOREST // 7:50 PM //
------------------
The two walked through the forest, both of their mouths sealed shut. The both letting the silence stretch. Their boots crunched over the dried leaves and broken sticks. It was quiet. Colder and darker.
It felt abnormal. Eugune trembled, but then asked.
"Where are we going?"
Pugsley didn't look at him, just blinked.
"Graveyard."
He spoke. Voice empty and cold. Eugune had a lump in his throat, he wanted to speak but swallowed it down like it was nothing.
Pugsley dragged his feet through the forest, kicking rocks with his foot. While Eugune still held the jar, his fingers shaking. Last time he was In a forest it almost lead to his death.
But it was for Pugsley, Eugune had to.
As they walked. The night growing. A sudden few months decided to cross their pathes. Pugsley would look around like a guard dog, though he kept his guard down. Instead it was Eugune.
He watched the moths cross the path, some landing on the trees, some staring into his soul. Eugune whispered, his breath shaky. Pugsley looked to Eugune's scared state, nudging him slightly like it's a joke.
"Owch."
Eugune grumbled. Pugsley chuckled lightly, just a bit.. Though Eugune may seemed upset, he could use the small shove and the chuckle. He couldn't lie it did lighten the mood slightly.
As the night darkened, a faint light glowed from afar. Pugsley shot his head up, his eyes catching the dim light from afar.
"What's that?"
Eugune asked, pointing his finger to the light.
"Its where we are going."
Pugsley muttered, his steps slightly paced. Eugune followed along, though he was slightly slow he followed anyways.
The graveyard sat at the edge of the forest, half swallowed by creeping ivy and moonlight shadows. The gala's glow was long gone now, leaving only silence broken by the chirp of crickets.
Eugene stumbled a little as he caught up, brushing dirt off the knees of his suit. The jar in his hands rattled as he shifted it, fingers tightening on the glass. He hadn't come out of loyalty at least that's what he told himself. It was guilt. Maybe even selfishness. Following Pugsley made him feel just a little less hollow.
Pugsley stopped in front of a cracked headstone, staring at the name carved deep into it, just remaining silent. Then walked over to the small porch and sat down on the stone an dirtied floor. His shoulders slumped, hands in his pockets. For a moment, Eugene thought he looked smaller than ever, like the world was trying to shrink him out of existence.
Eugune sat with him, his breath slightly ragged but yet he still didn't say anything.
"You still think Slurp is coming back."
Eugune asked, hollow and light. As if he was just trying to lighten the mood to make himself feel better, just to empty out the dull silence. Pugsley looked at him, expression cold but also it held almost sadness, maybe grief, just desperate. It wasn't good anyway.
"Maybe."
Pugsley shrugged, then looked away, legs crawled near him. Eugune felt guilty, he shouldn't have never treated him like that. Evantually. He decided to speak to him..
