~ One week later ~
The living room was a wreck — chip bags, soda cans, Uno cards scattered like confetti. Max was sprawled on the beanbag, Lucas cross-legged on the rug, Mike sulking in the armchair. I'd claimed most of the couch, legs tossed over Will's lap like it was mine by right.
Lucas slapped the Uno deck down dramatically. "Alright. Truth or Dare. It's happening."
Max smirked. "Finally."
Mike groaned. "We were playing Uno."
"Uno's for children," Lucas shot back.
"You are a child," Mike muttered.
Lucas ignored him, eyes locking on me. "Y/N. Dare. Shape-shift."
"That's not a dare," I scoffed. "That's Tuesday."
"Then do it," he pressed.
I grinned. "Fine. But I'm making it worth it. What if I turn into you and tell your mom you've been sneaking Max into your room?"
Lucas's eyes bulged. "No. Absolutely not."
Max burst out laughing. "Do it."
Heat shimmered. A second later, Lucas Sinclair sat across from the real Lucas.
"Oh hi, Mom," I said in his voice. "Max sneaks in every Saturday. Totally fine."
"STOP!" Lucas yelped. "YOU'LL GET ME KILLED!"
Max wheezed, Mike even cracked a grin. I shifted back, smug. "Worth it."
Beside me, Will muttered, grinning, "Uncanny."
Lucas snapped, pointing. "Alright, Byers. Truth or dare?"
Will shifted under my legs, mischief sparking. "Dare."
Max lit up. "Kiss your crush."
The room exploded. They all knew what they were doing — Will and I avoided PDA like the plague, so this was their way of stirring the pot.
Will coughed, stammered, then pointed at Lucas. "I'm not kissing you."
Max cackled. "Coward."
Lucas groaned. "We were this close to history."
Even Mike cracked a grin. "You're both so easy to mess with."
Lucas waved it off. "Next time. Y/N — truth or dare?"
"Truth."
"Weirdest place you've ever teleported?"
My eyes darted to Will — instinct. He was already red, lips twitching. We both knew the real answer. No way I was giving the others that story.
"An abandoned shed in the woods," I said.
Max frowned. "That's not weird."
"Oh, it was. Full of spiders. Thousands." I shuddered. "Didn't sleep for two nights."
Max cackled. "Pathetic."
"Traumatic," I corrected.
Lucas gagged. "I'd torch the whole place."
"You think I didn't try?"
Mike wrinkled his nose. "Randomest thing I've ever heard."
Will hid behind his hands, shoulders shaking. When he peeked up, his grin said it all — he knew exactly what I was covering.
I shot him a warning look. Don't. You. Dare.
He only smiled wider.
Lucas leaned forward. "Max. Truth or dare?"
