Chapter 54- Emotions Run High

"That's the thing about girls. Every time they do something pretty, even if they're not much to look at, or even if they're sort of stupid, you fall in love with them, and then you never know where the hell you are. Girls. Jesus Christ. They can drive you crazy. They really can."

― J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye

I pushed the laundry basket away with my foot as I sat on the couch, grabbing a squirming and kicking Colton from JC. He was not happy to eat peaches today, and milk wasn't pumped and ready for him. Tossing me a blanket JC left the room with a loud and deep sigh, taking a break and giving us a moment of privacy.

"I know you're hungry." I coo to Colton, throwing the blanket over us. I rested my eyes and yawned, waiting for the time to come to put Colton down for a nap so I could nap. I desperately needed to catch up on some sleep.

"Paisley! Paisley! I can't find the batteries!" SJ shouts from the kitchen. I groan, squeezing my eyes tighter. Please Lord let there be new batteries somewhere in this house so he is entertained by the Wii.

"Check mom and dad's desk." I tell him, not screaming like he was.

I heard him slam the kitchen draw and run over to the small office my parents had to themselves. "Do you need anything?" JC asks, walking into the room. Lately he's been very nice. Too nice actually, which is very un-JC like. Asking me if I want to go out with my friends and relax. Offering to take Colton to his place so I can have a full night's sleep and relax. Asking me what movies I want to watch at night rather than playing Breaking Bad. Making me lunch.

It was all so very weird, but I wasn't complaining either. Yet, I was wondering where this new JC came from and what happened to cranky, moody JC Ace. I shook my head, shifting my hold on Colton, and leaning my head more comfortably on the couch pillows. "No I'm all set. Thank you though." I mutter, stroking Colton's back in hope that he would fall asleep sooner today.

"You tired?" JC asks, sitting next to me on the sofa.

"Paisley! I can't find them! They're not in here!" SJ shouts even louder than before.

I sigh, not in any mood to get up and look for batteries that are probably in plain sight, "Can you please help him find his dang batteries? I know there's some in that messy kitchen junk draw." I ask JC in a soft voice. I didn't want to be screaming back and forth with SJ.

"Yeah, I got you." He says, getting up from the sofa. I mumble a quiet thanks, turning Colton to the other side for another five minutes before I burp him. "Don't make too much noise SJ. Your sister is trying to put Colton down for a nap." JC orders when walking back into the room.

"You mean putting herself down for a nap?" SJ corrects, laughing to himself.

"Yeah, that too." JC chuckles, sitting back next to me on the couch.

"Yes, very tired." I answer to him finally. "I just need a coffee or something." I figure. That or a nap. A nap works best.

"I kind of wanted to talk to you about something, but since you're tired I guess it can wait." He says to me, which now got me curious.

"What about?" I ask, opening my eyes and turning my head to him.

"Something I wanted to open up to you about. Privately." He says, eyeing SJ on the floor in front of us.

"He's not going to hear a single thing we say. He's too busy focused on his game." I tell JC shaking my head.

"I just thought, maybe, we could take a walk or something and talk about it. Take it outside in case." He suggests to me instead.
