The hallway felt colder that morning.
Nut’s eyes, which usually carried that mischievous glint, were hollow as he caught sight of Lego laughing—head tilted, fingers brushing Diamond’s arm like it belonged there.
The moment was ordinary to everyone else, but to Nut, it carved deep.
His smile didn’t falter in front of others, but Hong saw it—the way Nut’s shoulders sank just enough, the way his gaze lingered too long before snapping away.
Hong’s chest tightened. He’d known Nut long enough to read every flicker in his expression. He’d also known, from the very beginning, that his own heart beat too fast when Nut was near.
But watching Nut hurt like this was a different kind of ache—sharper, heavier.
When Nut brushed past him without the usual playful shove, Hong felt something inside him give. He wanted to reach out, to stop him, to say look at me instead. But instead, he only walked beside him, silently matching his pace, letting the space between them hum with an unspoken pull.
Nut didn’t say it out loud, but Hong could feel it: the walls around him had cracks now.
And through those cracks, maybe, just maybe, Nut had begun to notice the warmth standing right next to him.
He didn't felt sad for the first time in the week.
