"Shaynne, I'm glad you called. I wanted to speak with you about Isabelle." Celia whispered. There was a pause before Celia spoke again, "Isabelle has not known this side of life. I don't want anything getting in the way of her learning the world is good. Also, you are too close to this, a nineteen year old shouldn't be perusing a fourteen year old girl. Christ sakes, she's still a child."
This time I was able to hear Shaynne's voice, "Did you find her birth certificate?"
"Dr. Telbet completed a DNA test. A child named Belle Raymond was admitted eight years ago for falling down the stairs. She was terribly hurt, broken bones, concussion, damage to her mental state. She wouldn't let Eric out of her sight." Celia sighed, "Belle Raymond is Isabelle Milan. Eric had been her legal guardian advisor. He was allowed to stay with her, within the hopes that one of the parents would come get her."
"Who picked her up?" I could hear him gritting his teeth. Was he mad?
"Ramzy came as an investigator, said the parents couldn't leave because of an investigation." Celia flipped a page.
"Has that been changed in the hospital system?"
"With Isabelle being in the system as her correct name. She was treated as a first time patient. I haven't released the information to the board."
"Don't. They will alert Ramzy again." Hearing movement through the phone, before a sigh, "I need to go, please keep me updated on her condition."
"Shaynne, before you go. Are you sure you want to be fully involved in Isabelle's life? It's not like you." Celia stood from her seat.
"Yes, Isabelle should get the first hand attention. Not passed off on a group home, or therapist." By the time Shaynne said therapist he sounded angered. Before Celia could say anything further, the line went dead. Celia sighed and tossed the phone into her bag.
"How much did you hear?"
I froze, "Beginning." I fiddled with my fingers. Waiting for a hit, a punch or something. Nothing came... no pain.
"I will not hit you or hurt you." Celia said calmly. I peeked up to see that she had returned to her chair, looking through the papers.
"No hurt?" I repeated.
"No, I don't believe in violence." Celia waved her hand, like it was a bug annoying her.
I nodded but stayed quiet the rest of the day. By the evening came around, I was discharged again, but with the IV still connected. Celia requested that I stay home during this time, that way no one would be able to sneak in. Was she meaning Ramzy sneaking in? I headed into the house with Celia, when a woman and a scruffy young adult male walked up to us.
"Oh my! Why does Belle have all this connected. Are you drugging her?" The woman placed a hand on her chest, while reaching for the IV line. Alex stepped in between and raised his hands.
"Please step back." He ordered.
"Belle come here. You don't need all this." The scruffy male scoffed and sniffed.
Celia guided me just inside the door, "It is alright, Alex and I will handle this."
I held onto the doorframe and nodded.
"Why are you keeping my daughter from me?" The woman snapped.
"Your daughter?" Celia laughed.
"Yes! My daughter! I am Olivia Raymond. I am here to collect my daughter." The woman stomped her foot towards Celia. I hid further behind the door frame while Alex and Celia stood their ground.
"You signed over the rights when Isabelle was six." Celia laughed again.
"I was forced to! Since she is away from my ex-husband, I am able to regain custody of Belle." The woman puffed up her chest and placed her hands on her hips.
Celia shook her head, "The law does not work that way."
"How would you know?" The scruffy man snapped.
"Judge Mrs. Matthew's, knows more about the law then you two combined." Alex's voice was low but filled with warning that made the woman and scruffy man step back. I felt the room spin and I knew I might not have enough strength left to continue watching this.
"Celia." I mumbled. She turned and stepped to my side in an instant.
"Alex, take these two to my office. I need to tend to Isabelle." Celia requested before guiding me away from the scene.
"Her name is Belle!" The man yelled after us.
"Legally it is Isabelle." I heard Alex correct him before we went out of ear shot. I realized we were going in the opposite direction than the original way Keath had shown me before.
"Wrong." I stopped, my head still spinning.
"You are going to sleep in the room across from us... me." Celia smiled.
"Us?" I looked at her confused.
Celia blushed and shook her head, "You caught that." She resumed walking with me down the hall. "Keath doesn't know that Alex and I are married. We would like it kept this way for now."
"Why?" I asked as Celia opened a door along the hallway.
"Alex and I decided to not tell Keath because Alex was less of a lover when I was pregnant with Keath. Now that we are older..." Her cheeks turned tomato red, "There is a lot more now."
I nodded, not quite understanding.
"This is your new room, with its basic right now, we can pick out something you like tomorrow. As long as you feel up to it." Celia smiled wide. I sat on the bed, feeling like I was spinning faster and faster.
"Toilet?" I requested.
"Just to the left dear." Celia opened the door to the bathroom. I darted forward and just made it to the toilet before heaving. Nothing came up, since I hadn't had a meal in quite a number of days.
"Vomiting again?" Celia reached for a IV bag in the closet. "I was hoping we could have given you a break tonight." She sighed.
"Sorry." I sniffled and closed my eyes.
"No, dear. Don't be sorry." Celia replaced the IV bag.
"Don't?" I turned to her, Was she going to hit me?
"Yes, do not be sorry for your health. That isn't in your control." Celia handed me a damp cloth.
"Sleep?" I requested, returning to the bedroom.
"Yes, sleep. If you need to use the washroomanytime through the night, remember to take your IV with you. The pole is onwheels, it will make it easier for you to move it." Celia setup everything, giving me more than enough access to things I might need. It is more than Ihave ever had. No one has ever treated me like this.
