Chapter 4 • Suitor

"No, Sir. I was going for a drink." I murmur back.

"Good, you don't need to be any bigger than you already are. Look at Padmé, she's perfect. You look like a pig in lipstick."

Instinctively, my eyes water at the comment, and I blink away any sight of tears.

"Go get a drink and then I'll send some men over." Father snaps, before smiling at a suitor walking by, then leaving.

Whilst sipping some iced tea I just poured into a glass, a man comes over to me.

He looks like he's in his 30s, with blonde hair and piercing blue eyes that briefly resemble Anakin's.

Why am I thinking of that asshole? Ew.

"Hello. I'm Lord Devin Hart, of Hart Manor. but you can call me Devin. It's a pleasure to meet you, Princess Amidala."

He bows, picking my hand up and gently kissing the back.

"Oh— Hi. It's nice to meet you too... Devin."
I smile.

I didn't really know what to say.

I was caught off guard. That was awkward.

After talking with Devin for a few minutes, I start to incredibly dislike him.

He's asking if I'd cook and clean well.

Not only that but he's flexing his manor as if he didn't inherit it from his dad.

He's incredibly unambitious, annoying, sexist, the list goes on.

My type is normally: hot, funny, mean in a flirty way, tall, sweet, kind.

I've never met anyone like that, but a girl can dream. Fey supports my delusions, and that's what really matters to me.

"Your father says I'm his favourite of all the suitors. Maybe we can leave her and have a little... chat?" Devin suggests in a flirty tone.

"I'm sorry but my family would murder me if I left after talking to one guy. Maybe later?" I try be as polite as possible, but it's hard.

This guy makes me want to be captured all over again just to get away.

The rest of the night was fairly boring, I had conversations with just about every guy there.

Then I see Obi-Wan.

I must've been so busy this whole time talking and being as polite as I could.

Dashing over to him, I pull him into a quick hug, pulling away after a moment before anybody could see and get the wrong idea.

"(Y/n)... I'm so sorry I couldn't be there earlier."he refers to my beating, making my throat burn slightly, "They made me stay outside—"

"I know, I know. Don't worry about it, Obi-Wan. I'm just glad you're here, I was dying of boredom talking to those idiots. I think my parents are going to pick one of them as my husband... He's called Devin."

"Let me guess, he's the worst of them all?"

"Yep. Bet you're using those Jedi mind tricks Anakin used."

"I would never read into your thoughts, I'm not anything like Anakin. Plus I doubt I could if I tried, the force only lets certain people read your mind."

"How so?"

"The force works in mysterious ways. If Anakin can read your mind, he can do it for a reason. Any Jedi can read a weak minded person. But you're not weak minded, you're one of the strongest minded people I know. That's where the force makes an exception."

"That's cool. It's annoying that Anakin of all people can. At least I won't see him again."

"I think that's for the best." We both laugh, though I watch Obi-Wan's smile drop from his face as he looks behind me.

I turn.

It's my parents.

"We've come to a decision, (Y/n). You will marry Devin."

My heart drops, but I keep a polite smile on my face.

"Okay."

"He's going home, but in a few days you shall go on a date with him." My mother says.

I can tell they aren't too hateful of me at the moment, probably because they finally found a guy to ship me off with.

I bet they picked the worst one on purpose, with Padmé's help no doubt.

"Okay."

"You can go to your room now." They dismiss me and I take one last look at Obi-Wan before exiting the ballroom and going to my room.

My plan is to get this one and Intertwined to 6 chapters because Like Him has 6, then I can release one of each at the same time and remain on the same amount of chapters for each.
