The city lights flickered below the balcony where Kritika stood, wrapped in her embroidered shawl, staring at the dark horizon. The wedding festivities were still alive inside, but out here, silence ruled—except for the steady thump of her own heartbeat, confused and unsettled.
Kabir appeared beside her as if summoned by her thoughts. His presence was a storm—both comforting and dangerous. “Tum soch rahi ho?” he asked softly, his eyes searching hers.
Kritika didn’t answer immediately. Instead, she looked away. “Kabir, tumhari duniya mere liye itni door kyun lagti hai? Jaise main uss raaste par nahi chal sakti jahan tum ho.”
Kabir’s jaw tightened. “Tumne kabhi socha hai ki main tumhare bina uss raaste pe chalna kaisa hota? Tum meri zindagi mein sabse badi takleef ho… aur sabse badi tasalli bhi.”
A fragile silence wrapped around them.
Suddenly, her phone buzzed. A message from an unknown number: “Woh tumse jhoot bol raha hai. Stay safe”
Her breath hitched. She looked at Kabir. His eyes darkened, unreadable. He took her phone gently, typed a quick reply, then slid the phone back without a word.
“Tumhari zindagi ka hissa banne ke liye main har dard seh sakta hoon,” he whispered. “Par mujhe tum par bharosa karna hoga.”
Kritika’s heart wrestled between doubt and desire.
That night, as they stood together watching the city sleep, the space between them was fragile, filled with unspoken promises and hidden fears.
---
Kritika stood close to Kabir, their breaths mingling in the cold night air. Her voice trembled slightly, “Kabir, main dar rahi hoon… tumhari duniya itni gehri aur andheri lagti hai ke main khud ko kho baithi hoon.”
(Kabir, I’m scared… your world feels so deep and dark that I feel like I’m losing myself.)
Kabir cupped her face gently, his eyes burning with a fierce intensity. “Main tumhe kabhi khona nahi chahta, Kritika. Tum meri zindagi ki wo roshni ho jisme main andheron se ladta hoon.”
(I never want to lose you, Kritika. You are the light in my life for which I fight all darkness.)
A pause hung between them — heavy, fragile, yet full of unspoken promises.
He leaned closer, voice barely above a whisper, “Tumhare bina meri zindagi adhoori hai… aur main har uss dard ko sehne ko taiyaar hoon jo tumhare saath ho.”
(My life is incomplete without you… and I’m ready to bear every pain as long as it’s with you.)
Kritika’s eyes glistened with tears, a mixture of fear and hope swirling inside her. For the first time in a long while, she allowed herself to believe in the possibility of a new beginning.
(If you get stuck between the happiness and pain that love brings… would you embrace it?)
