Saanvi sat cross-legged on the bed, her hair loose and messy, eyes half-closed, muttering over and over:
"Eshaan, unna romba kaadhalikkiren... en Eshaan baby, en Eshaan jaanu, en Eshaan sweetheart, en azhagana patidev..."
His jaw dropped. She was sleep-talking. And in Tamil.
Without thinking, he jumped off the bed, grabbed the nearest glass of water, and splashed it onto her face.
She gasped, instantly awake. "Ye kya badtameezi kari aapne? Ek jhappad mardungi jameen me gir jaoge!" she snapped, glaring.
Eshaan, still shaken, stammered, "Ye... ye... kyaa...kyaa...kar rahi thi aap.."
Saanvi, still flushed from the earlier moments, suddenly stood up, her eyes shining with a mix of embarrassment and playful defiance. Before Eshaan could react, her palm rose and landed softly but firmly across his cheek.
He blinked in surprise, momentarily frozen by the unexpected slap.
"Nirlaj Insaan ab kapde badalne padenge hamko," she said sharply, her voice carrying a hint of mock reprimand. Without waiting for his response, she turned and strode toward the large walk-in closet, the soft rustle of her lehenga trailing behind her like a melody.
Eshaan sat back on the edge of the bed, a slow smile spreading across his face as he rubbed his cheek, still stunned but amused. The softness in her gesture, the strength in her personality - it all wrapped around him like a warm cloak.
"Kis aurat se biyah hogya humara," he muttered under his breath, a mixture of wonder and confusion evident in his voice.
Saanvi, now alone, sat down before the elegant dressing table, the polished surface reflecting the soft glow of the bedside lamp. She reached up delicately, trying to remove the heavy earrings that tugged uncomfortably at her ears after hours of wear. Each movement was slow and careful, as if savoring the moment to herself.
Eshaan's eyes followed her every move, a quiet appreciation flickering in their depths. But then, his gaze landed on something that made his breath catch - the dori of her kurti was loose, untied, revealing the smooth expanse of her back under the dim light.
For a moment, time seemed to pause. The soft curve of her back, the vulnerability of the exposed skin, stirred something deep within him.
As Saanvi moved toward the bed, unaware of his gaze, Eshaan stood up silently. His hands reached out before she could settle down and gently pulled her back toward him. The room seemed to shrink around them, charged with an electric intimacy.
Carefully, he took the loose dori between his fingers and began knotting it. The rough texture of his knuckles brushed against her soft skin, and a shiver ran down her spine - a mix of surprise and a sudden rush of warmth.
Leaning close, his breath brushed near her ear as he whispered softly,
"Aage se dhyaan rakhiyega, hamare irade nek nhi h apko lekar."
The words hung in the air between them, both a warning and a promise. Saanvi swallowed hard, her heart pounding wildly in her chest. Then, with a teasing glint in her eyes, she retorted,
"Ap ap sudhar jaiye... Mr Shekhawat."
Eshaan chuckled lowly, his lips brushing just beside her ear as he replied,
"Sudhar dijiye Mrs Shekhawat."
Saanvi playfully pushed him away, a laugh bubbling up despite herself.
"Ap dusre room me jakar soiye."
With a mock sigh, Eshaan relented.
"Jaisa aap chahe Mrs Shekhawat."
He turned and walked toward the other room, shaking his head fondly at her spirited nature. The sound of his footsteps fading into the hall left a comforting echo behind.
Alone again, Saanvi lay back on the bed, the softness of the sheets soothing her nerves. But the quiet comfort was broken by the distant rustling of leaves outside, stirred by the gentle breeze, and the low growl of thunder rolling in the sky beyond the windows.
A sudden chill swept through the room, and an uneasy feeling gnawed at her. Rising quickly, she hurried out and crossed the hallway to the other room where Eshaan had retreated.
Her voice was barely above a whisper as she asked,
"Kya mai mai..aapke saath so sakti hu?"
Eshaan's chuckle was warm and inviting.
"Too desperate Mrs Shekhawat?"
The teasing sent a wave of heat rushing to her cheeks, and she looked away, embarrassed.
Without hesitation, Eshaan stepped forward and swept her up in a bridal carry. The strength in his arms, the steady beat of his heart against her ear - it all washed away her fears.
He carried her gently back to their room and laid her down softly on the bed.
That night, as the storm rumbled quietly outside, they fell into a peaceful sleep. Saanvi's head rested on Eshaan's chest, rising and falling with each steady breath. His arms wrapped protectively around her, a silent vow of love and safety.
As moonlight spilled across the room like liquid silver, Saanvi's dreams drifted into a sea of soft memories and whispered promises. Eshaan's presence was a steady anchor in the swirling currents of her mind.
She was awake in the middle of the night, senses heightened by the distant thunder and the rhythm of the rain beginning to patter against the windows. Her eyes fluttered open, and she found herself pressed close to Eshaan's chest, the rise and fall of his breathing soothing her like a lullaby.
Her fingers traced the lines of his shirt absently, comforted by the warmth radiating from his body. She felt a thousand unspoken emotions swirling inside - gratitude, love, hope - all tangled with a hint of nervous excitement about their future together.
Eshaan shifted slightly in his sleep, tightening his arms around her as if to keep her safe from the shadows lurking outside.
