navy looked up from her phone, sitting on her bed in the ortizs' house. nicole and conrad broke up, and it was mutual.
however, the brunette girl didn't care. conrad had been toying around with her, nicole, and belly at the same time. he was a fuckboy, and nicole was lucky to escape his hands, which were probably busy juggling all three girls.
the reyes girl heard a knock on her door, and called a quick 'come in!' before the door opened, revealing aunt maeve.
"hey, navy, susannah had invited us to the party earlier today, but i couldn't go and i have plans with someone else right now.. do you mind just going over and staying there for dinner or something?"
"sure. i'll get changed." navy said, agreeing only to be polite. she stood up, walking to her closet and throwing her phone on the bed while maeve closed the door.
since it was the fourth of july, the reyes girl chose a navy (navy wearing navy?!?) contour top and white pleated skirt. she clipped her hair in a red hairbow, leaving it down. she figured the outfit was good enough, since it had the colors of the flag, and she wasn't gonna wear those crazy outfits with the flag pasted on them.
the girl had taken a nap during the afternoon, after everything that had happened in the morning. navy wasn't very drunk, as she hadn't had that many drinks, but still had a light headache.
did she really want to go back to the beach house, and see conrad again?
---------
when the girl arrived, the boys were cleaning up the backyard from the party earlier. she closed the car door and stepped onto the pavement, unnoticed by anyone.
"ready?" jeremiah asked, before chucking an empty soda can at steven, who was holding up a trash bag.
the soda can went completely sideways, making a bang sound as it clattered against the pavement. "why is your aim so bad?" steven questioned.
"hey, listen. it's not my fault you can't hold a garbage bag." he replied, while the conklin boy went to pick up the can.
beside them, conrad was cleaning the pool, using a net to scoop up dropped items. "hey, dumb and dumber, can you guys go and set up the fireworks? i'll clean up."
"yeah, sure. let's go, come on." jeremiah said, grabbing steven by the arm and running away.
navy stood at the other end of the pool, still unnoticed by the boy. "hi." she said coldly.
at the new voice, conrad looked up. "hey!" he said, his mouth in a lopsided smile. "where'd you go earlier?"
"you were talking to belly, so i left." the girl said. a half-truth. "uh, where's susannah?" the she said briskly.
his expression darkened slightly. "i think she's laying down. she took a fall earlier." the boy threw the net at the floor, before walking around the pool to navy. "but why're you here?"
"maeve told me to come, since she couldn't and your mom invited her." navy replied, looking at the floor. "you need help with this?" she asked, picking up a trash bag.
the boy hesitated. "sure, thanks." he said, hoping to talk to her more. "nicole and i, we broke up."
"i heard." the short reply came from navy as she picked up empty soda cans. "i thought you two were already over, you'd told me?"
oh shit. conrad had maybe bluffed a little in the heat of the moment before, saying he thought that him and nicole were over, but the brunette girl hadn't wanted to do anything until she was sure. "i told we were over, really." he assured her. "like, we hadn't seen each other in weeks, and nicole wasn't answering my texts, so i just figured we were over."
