"You're joking, right?"

June Varokornwatcharakool didn’t usually raise her voice, but this time, it came out sharper than intended. She was seated in her condo, one leg crossed over the other, still wearing the white blouse and high-waisted jeans from her earlier commercial shoot. Her makeup was flawless, her posture composed—the very picture of a rising actress who had worked hard to craft her clean, professional image.

But this? This was chaos.

Her manager, Pla, winced as she adjusted her AirPods. "I know you two don’t exactly get along, but come on. It’s a high-budget GL series. The script is amazing. The production house is behind two of the biggest hits in the past three years. This could be career-defining."

June leaned back against the sofa and stared at the ceiling like it might offer her divine guidance. "I don't care if it's backed by God himself. I'm not starring opposite Enjoy."

"Her name’s Thidarut."

"Exactly," June said flatly.

Pla sighed. "She’s trending every other week. She has one of the strongest fanbases in the Thai GL space. Pairing the two of you? It’s genius marketing. You’re elegant, classy, controlled. She’s wild, unpredictable, bold."

June scoffed. "You mean unprofessional."

"You mean honest."

June didn’t answer. Instead, she got up from the couch and walked over to the window, arms crossed, eyes scanning the Bangkok skyline.

Enjoy Thidarut Pruethong.

She was a walking contradiction. With her buzz-cut phase and oversized hoodies, she looked more like someone’s chaotic younger cousin than a leading lady. But she had charisma. June couldn’t deny that. The kind of magnetic charm that made fans scream at fan meetings and light up comment sections. The same charm that annoyed the hell out of her in real life.

They had met once. A variety show. Enjoy had been late, loud, and absolutely allergic to following the script. She made jokes that weren’t funny, interrupted June mid-sentence, and accidentally knocked over a bottle of water into her lap. She’d apologized, sure. But then she laughed about it in the green room afterward like it was no big deal.

June never forgot. Or forgave.

"What if I say no?" June asked.

Pla paused. "Then they'll offer it to Mai. And you know her management’s been trying to pivot her into GL for months. She nails this role, and she becomes the face of it. You’ll be back to side characters and cosmetic endorsements."

The silence stretched between them. June's jaw clenched.

She hated being cornered. Hated being told what she had to do. But even more than that, she hated watching someone else take what she had worked so hard to earn.

"Fine," she said at last. "I’ll do it."

Across town, in a messy condo lit with fairy lights and the dull glow of a gaming laptop, Enjoy was yelling.

"Yessssssss! Oh my god, finally!"

She danced around the coffee table in a pair of worn gray sweatpants and a loose tank top. Her roommate, Ink, looked up from a manga she was pretending to read but clearly not focused on.

"You got it?"

Enjoy grinned and spun like she’d just been crowned prom queen. "Lead role, baby. First billing. Romance, angst, kissing in the rain. You name it."
