The next morning I woke up on his couch and he was in the floor. I smiled at the peaceful look on his face and his hair was in his eyes. I moved his hair when his eyes opened and I smiled at him. "Good morning." I greeted him.
"Good morning." He replied then stretched and I admired his muscles. He winked at me then got up as I sat there in shock. "I'm going to make breakfast then I am taking you to do something."
"What about school?" I asked.
"I am going to call in sick." He told me as he walked into the kitchen. I smiled and got up of the couch. I followed him and sat at the table while he started on breakfast. "How about you go to your house and get some different clothes on. Those probably aren't comfortable after sleeping in them." I nodded then got up and walked over to my house. My father's truck was gone so he was probably was out investigating a lead. I walked up to my room and got a fresh pair of clothes then put them in a bag. I walked back over to Shawn's after I locked my house. I texted my dad that I was staying home from school and that I would be with a friend. He knew I was with Shawn, but he didn't care like I had said before he trusted me. I walked in and sat down at the kitchen table after putting my bag on the couch next to my backpack.
"Do you mind if I get a shower after breakfast here? I don't like being alone in the house when I shower." I told him.
"I don't care." He answered as he set a plate of eggs and bacon in front of me.
"This smells great." I said as I waited for him to sit down with his plate. He sat down and I began to eat. "So do you live here with your girlfriend?"
"I don't have a girlfriend." He stated. "No one is really attracted to guys with huge scars on their faces."
"Their loss then." I told him as I ate. He laughed and I looked up at him. "What?"
"If I didn't know any better I would say that you are flirting with me." He said and I blushed as I stared at the food like it was very interesting. "I was just joking Kat." I laughed as I looked back up at him. He had pulled out his phone and dialed a number. "I wanted to call and say I wouldn't be at work today. Thank you." He hung up the phone and we finished our breakfast.
"Where is the bathroom?" I asked and he pointed down the hall. "Thank you." I said. I grabbed my bag then went to the bathroom and started up the shower. I washed my hair and got out of the shower after I dried off. I got dressed into an oversized t shirt and a pair of black jeans. I brushed my hair and my teeth then walked out to see Shawn waiting for me to get out.
"Ready to go?" He asked and I nodded. We walked out to his car and got in. He drove us to a trail my father and I had visited about three years ago. We got out and I felt a little bit better as we walked through the woods. My father always told me to remember where you came so you can get out. So as we walked I made landmarks so that I would find my way back. "I hope this helps with your problems. I know when I come out here I like to think."
"It does help thank you Shawn." I said as I hugged him. He rubbed my back in a friendly manner then we pulled away. His head turned to the left so I was able to see his scar since I was on his right side. I went to touch it, but pulled back quickly. I shook my head as he looked back at me.
"What?" He questioned. I just shook my head again and chuckled to myself. We continued to walk until we came to a cliff the same cliff that was in my dream about the three wolves. I sat down and dangled my feet over the edge.
"You want to know something weird? I dream about this cliff, well it's not really a dream it's more of like a memory." I told him and he sat next to me.
"What's the dream?" He asked.
"So I'm six years old and I fall in. As I begin to lose consciousness I get pulled out of the water by this black wolf with blue eyes and a scar on the right side of its face. When I begin to gain focus I notice two smaller wolves in the background. Now it seems more of like a dream because it seemed like you, but in a wolf form." I laughed as I looked out into the water. "But, that's impossible isn't it?" I asked and he nodded.
"People can't be wolves Kat." He said and smiled.
"You want to know something weirder. I think that same wolf saved me the other night. Or, maybe I'm just crazy and made the whole thing up in my head." I stated.
"It's getting close to lunch time. We should be heading back." Shawn said then we got up and started to head back. We got to the car when Shawn grew tense.
"Shawn, are you okay?" I asked and he nodded.
"Yeah, my back hurts is all." He said.
"Do you want me to check it out for you?" I questioned. Shawn shook his head and I put my hand on his back gently. "Are you sure? I mean I might be able to help."
"No, I probably just pulled something in the gym the other day. Seriously, I'm fine." He told me. I nodded and we got into the car. He started it up and we drove to a drive thru to order lunch. We pulled into the parking lot and ate the food. We finished eating and Shawn started the car back up. We headed back to his house and I sang along to the radio in my head. We pulled into his drive way and I got out of the car. Shawn followed and we walked inside. We sat on the couch and I heard Shawn gasp in pain as he laid back against the couch. I sighed and looked at him with my eyebrow raised.
"Shawn let me look at your back. What are you afraid of me seeing? It is literally just a back." I said and he shook his head. "Please Shawn." I pleaded and he sighed.
"Fine, but please don't freak out." He stated. I nodded and he turned around so his back was towards me and lifted his shirt up. What I saw made me gasp, all over his back there were scars in the shape of teeth marks like dog bites and long scars that looked like scratches. I ran my finger over some of them until I noticed there was newly done scratches down his back.
"What happened to you?" I asked. That's when it all clicked the scratches on his back were from the other night. No wonder the wolf from the other night had reminded me of Shawn, it was because Shawn was the wolf. "You're the wolf."
"Yeah, I am. But, you would actually call me a werewolf" He said as he pulled his shirt down. He got up and walked away so I got up and followed him. I was a little scared I would admit, but I could hear the sadness in his voice. He heard me following him and turned around to face me. He wouldn't look me in the eye out of fear of what I would say. I bent down so my face would be under his and I looked into his eyes, which was full of sadness. "Why aren't you running away and calling me a monster?" He straightened up and started to turn away from me.
"Because, you aren't a monster and I don't like to run." I told him. He looked down at me with now curious eyes. I took a step closer until I was close enough to pull him into a hug. "I'm not going anywhere, you're the only person I can open up to. Even though we just met I feel this connection with you that I can't explain." He hesitantly wrapped his arms around me while resting his chin against my head.
"I am a monster you just don't see it yet." He said and I shook my head. "As for the strange connection I can tell you why you feel that way."
"Why?" I asked as I pulled away to look into his eyes. He took a deep breath before answering me.
"It's because we're mates." He told me.
