MADDIE'S POV

"Can I help you?"

Just like swallowed from a Time Warp, I transcended back to the present. A middle aged nun stood opposite to mine. Stretch lines appeared on her forehead. She seemed puzzled that I was standing in front of Sweet Angels' Home main door. I wasn't aware how long had I been there.

I took a deep breath and cleared my throat.I hardly find my voice.

"What can we do for you, miss?", she repeated.

"Ummm ... I...err...May I speak with Sister Blessy?"

"Please follow me."

Few steps ahead, I followed her. We walked down the corridor. The nun stopped when she reached the administrator's office and knocked three times.

"Sister Blessy, there's someone looking for you."

"Please come in."

As I sat in front of Sister Blessy, the other nun left. By name, I knew Sister Blessy. Anonymously, I sent donations to the orphanage in her name.

Moment of silence passed. She stared at me as if remembering who I was to her. By the look of her, I am guessing she's past 60 years old.

Sister Blessy cleared her throat. It's the cue for me to tell her my reason for visiting her.

"Well, for a start sister, I am Sabina's biological mother."

She raised her brows. Her lips repeated the name Sabina but without a sound.

"I left Sabina in front of the orphanage five years ago, sister."

She looked at me and there it is, I knew she remembered. She stood and pulled the steel drawer, browsed on the files and picked one. Written infront was Sabina's name. For a while, she read the file.

"So, you're Sabina's mother? Mind if I get your name?"

"Maddie Collins".

" Maddie, I am happy that you've come to see your daughter. She's such a sweet angel."

"Can I see her sister?"

I've been longing to be with Sabina. Not a single day I imagine carrying her in my arms. She looked blankly at me. She took a deep breath.

"I'm afraid I can help you on that."

What the hell is the meaning of that? No! No! Shouted a voice inside me. It can't be.

"Don't worry, your daughter is fine. But she's no longer with us. She was adopted."

Adopted! Though being adopted is far better with the thought that my daughter was dead. But still, this poses a problem on my part.

"You see Maddie, she grew up with this medical condition. She has abnormalities in her bone marrow that needed transplant from compatible donor. For years, we've been trying to locate you because we believe being her biological parents, you'd be the compatible donor."

A certain lump formed into my throat. My Sabina had been suffering. What kind of mother am I not having felt my daughter's pain. Sister Blessy still explaining Sabina's condition but I can't comprehend anymore. I felt completely numb. Then there's total blackness.
