LA, May 1981, the Sunset Strip

I pulled my jacket tighter around my shoulders and smiled as I walked to the whiskey. I pushed my way through the forming crowd; the Crue was on tonight, so it was big. I knew if I tried, I could weasel my way into a band; it had to be this show. I could play all their songs. This was the third show I had been to I knew what I was doing.

I crossed my arms over my chest and smiled as I watched them catch the singer's eyes, he smiled at me, giving me a little nod as they fed into to fast for Love. Their drummer was insane. I stuck around the bar when the show ended, sitting at the little barstools, watching my surroundings.

"I haven't seen you here before," A voice said from behind me.

I jumped and turned, facing the singer, his stage leathers were replaced with blue jeans and a black t-shirt. "I've been to a couple, you guys are alright," I said, offering up a little shrug to the boy who looked rather upset.

"Just alright?"

"Singer! Who are you talking to out here!"I recognized the guitarist. He looked at me and sighed. "Look, I'm suryou'reur a pleasant girl, but he has a girlfriend and we have to do load out, which is a bitch."

I rolled my eyes. "I have no interest is fucking any of you. I came here for the music and to hopefully speak with you guys if things went my way." I responded. Looking between the two men.

The guitarist laughed. "What did you want to talk about, sweetheart?"

"First of all, I'm not your sweetheart.rt sweetheartf All, you guys are good out there, but you're missing something. Your guitar is hollow; it's not as intense as you want it to be," I said, maneuvering on my chair so I was facing them.

The guitarist scoffed. "What do you know about guitar?"

"A lot more than you think, I know enough to know you guys would be ten times better with a rhythm. I'll prove it." I said, I swallowed my fear as I climbed to my feet facing the two shortest people of Crue, they were still much taller than I. I was not the rockstar-looking type, I get that. I was wearing a black leather jacket with a black skirt with silver loops and vertical lines around it.

The guitarist stepped closer to me. "I've been playing guitar longer than you've been alive, kid. I may look like an old lloserr, but I'm Mick Mars. I am not to be messed with." He hissed. I could tell I struck a nerve.

"I'm not trying to offend you, you're a great guitarist, I'm just saying you could be even better if you didn't have to worry about some of the more bleak things, doing a solo every two bars isn't ideal, but it's even worse when you've got no rhythm back there," I said I was trying to appeal to him.

He laughed. "Prove it,"

"Take me to a guitar,"

We walked backstage to where the others were milling about, the drummer was packing up his kit and loading it out. Their bassist was looping up cords. The guitarist grabbed one of the guitars propped on a box and passed it to me as he picked up one of his own, Take your pick of your song."

"Let's do, take me to the top," I said,  adjusting the guitar strap over my shoulders. "You do your shit and I'll add my little something something," I said. "Count us off," I said, looking up at the guitarist.

He nodded. "One two three four." Before he started on his notes, I followed the pattern of the song, strumming along, knowing I was right. It sounded flawless. Their bassist and drummer had paused their loadout to watch us.

"Mick, who's the chick?" The drummer asked the lanky boy bounding towards the annoyed and slightly impressed guitarist. The drummer smiled at me, leaning on the shorter man. "Hey there, beautiful,"
