Dear Reader,
This story began with silence.
Not the kind you notice, but the kind that seeps in when no one is looking, when you're surrounded by people and still feel invisible. I wrote this novel because I once hoped someone would notice me breaking. But no one ever did. So I gathered all my shattered pieces, every ache, every quiet cry, every part of me I buried, and I poured them into these characters.
Betty’s strength hiding her sorrow.
James’s search for worth in someone else’s eyes. Olive’s longing to be seen. Inez’s loudness, Matt’s perfection as armor. Tim’s fairy tale dreams that never quite came true.
They are all me. They are all fragments of who I’ve been, who I still am, and who I’m trying to forgive. Every character you’ve met carries a part of the person I was when no one saw me. And maybe, as you turned these pages, you saw parts of yourself too.
Because this isn’t just my story. It’s yours too. For anyone who has ever felt like too much or not enough. For anyone who has smiled while secretly falling apart. For anyone who’s ever wanted to be chosen, not for what they offer, but for who they are when no one is watching.
I hope you felt that in these pages. I hope you know now: You are not alone in feeling this way.
And if there’s one thing I want you to carry with you after reading, it’s this:
If only we learned to truly see people, beyond what they say, beyond what they show, maybe no one would have to carry the weight of being broken and think they’re unworthy of something beautiful.
You are worthy.
You always were.
With all my love,
Ranran
