LISA's POV
We were walking in silence just around the old school's deserted library when Jennie suddenly stopped in her tracks, her head turning to me, her eyes full of interesting emotions I could not read.
"S-shouldn't you be touring me around the new buildings?" I finally asked, wary of the darkness of the place.
She started clearing her throat before she spoke, her voice thick, "well, yes, but you also need to know the origin of the place, am I right?" She asked, her perfectly shaped eyebrows, raised and I nodded like a puppy obeying her owner.
"There are at least ten students buried here-" I snapped my head back at her and she started laughing, the sound of it echoing around the halls.
"I'm kidding, this is where students usually lounge- those who find the newly built buildings boring at least- some smoke around here, some find pleasure, if you know what I mean," she wiggles her eyebrows and I frowned. "That's unacceptable-" I started
"Well, the Parks trashed the whole place when they were still here. I know, because I painfully watched the whole thing occur before my eyes." We started walking again, then she turned and opened an abandoned building. I unashamedly gasped at the place, my hand touching the old walls made of bricks.
"This is where I chose to build my office- that is also why I am aware of the funny business that has been going on around here."
"Why here?" I asked while I approached the mahogany table sitting pretty at the centre of the room, a shelf of thick books and files sat in the corner.
"I find solace despite the mess outside. This is me, flipped inside out."
I snapped my head at the sound of locks turning, I watched warily as Jennie turned each and every lock of the doors.
"Uh...,"
"Out of habit- now- tell me about your father," Jennie commanded as she started to pull a glass of wine out of the mini fridge just beside the door.
I did not even see that
"Why? I mean, what does my father have to do with this?" I asked, my hand motioning in the air.
I watched as Jennie gracefully sat at her swivelling chair, setting down two glasses of half filled wine, her legs and fingers crossing, her eyes staring me down. Fuck
"Did my father send you to talk to me?" I accused, as I sighed in disbelief. I walked towards the door to find my exit.
"You'll need my fingerprint to open that. Come and sit here."
"No," I argued
"Your father did not send me. I sent myself. Now, come here," she pointed at the chair across her table and I groaned.
"Ugh! I am fucking tired of talking about my father." I said as I flopped down in the chair.
"No need to tell me everything about him, though" Jennie stated as she stood up with a glass of wine in hand and discarded her blazer, she walked around the table, stopping just beside me, so close enough that I could smell her rich perfume. I looked up at her with my eyebrows furrowed.
"How is he with you and Mrs. Manoban?" She whispered and my frown cleared.
"- I-uh...," I lowered my head before I started to speak,
"He was never really there... I remember the last time he ever was, though." I lean back in the chair, Jennie still standing closely, watching me.
"I- I remember him dragging my mom across the house because he did not fucking like the thought that my mother only cooked for two for Christmas. I mean... no one's expecting him to come. He goes on business trips every month, but I know... I am aware that he is only banging every woman he has ever worked with." I catch my breath, reaching for the glass of wine and emptying it in seconds.
Feeling the suffocating silence, I glanced up at Jennie who was looking at me with a new emotion I had yet to see.
She sighed and sat on the arm of the chair that I was on. I never really put much thought into it, not until she started snaking an arm around my shoulder.
"That explains why," she uttered and I looked at her confused.
"Why what?"
"He kind of ogled me during the seminar yesterday. What a disgusting piece of shit." She said as she rubbed my shoulder, squeezing it before reaching for the top of my head, her hand guiding me to look up at her.
"He mentioned that you're marrying someone, though,"
She whispered while anger bubbled inside me.
Me marrying someone? What the fuck?
"What the fuck? That's why he brought me here?"
I started to stand up, but she held me down
Why the fuck is she so strong
"Calm down," she said it as if it was simple. Calm? That is not what I am trying to be right now.
"I cannot calm the fuck down, Jennie. My mom's gonna be mad!"
"I figure that he is trying to get into our lifelong built businesses, our name as well. He is trying to talk to my father into it,"
"You mean?" I ask, my eyes wandering around her figure
"Yes. I am to be your wife," Jennie stated as if it were the most normal thing to say. And no, what the fuck, I am still young. I can't be tied down just because of a fucking arrangement!
"What? And you agreed? I don't even fucking know you!" I said as I finally stood up, forcing her to stand up too.
"But, I know quite a bit about you..." she uttered under her breath, I almost did not catch it. I turned to her confused, and she turned to look at the thick files sitting on the shelves.
"Where did those come from?" I asked
"Mr. Manoban gave me those a month ago. I never read them, just the first page and it's just about who you are and where you were from. The rest of the content, I have no clue," Jennie said as she started to unlock the door.
"Bring them with you if you would like. Burn them to hell, if you want to. I don't care." She said as she finally did the last lock.
The school bell rang the moment the door opened and I sighed, looking back at the files. Contemplating for a second, before putting it back on the shelves and following Jennie who had a knowing grin that I did not see.
"Why did you put it back?" Jennie asked as I reached her.
"It has already been arranged. I can't argue against my father, and I'd hate to see those files sitting inside my room," I said while kicking around the rocks. We walked in silence until we reached the new fields of the school.
"Why did you not lock the doors?" I suddenly asked, remembering that I was the last to exit the room.
Jennie stared at me for a few seconds before responding, "Oh- it locks itself," she says with a small grin, I almost did not see.
"You'll know your way around here in time, Manoban," Jennie says as she turns to walk away.
"See ya around," turning, she winked.
