A/N: I'm considering making little covers for these stories but I'm not sure. At any rate, The Emperor's Nightingale (originally Nattergalen) is a Danish fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen.

CASTING:

Emperor: Russia (Ivan)

Nightingale: Estonia (Eduard)

There once was a nightingale named Eduard who lived in the courtyard of a castle. This nightingale would occasionally sing in the evenings, and everyone who heard his song agreed that it was the most beautiful thing in the world.

An emperor by the name of Ivan heard about this nightingale and ordered for him to be brought into the castle. This was done, and for many years, the nightingale would sing for the emperor and became fond of him. One day, though, Ivan received a gift from a neighboring nobility: an animatronic nightingale that would sing whatever it's owner chose.

Ivan soon started to listen to the animatronic nightingale more and more, neglecting Eduard. Eventually, Eduard saw that he was no longer wanted in the castle and flew off into the courtyard again.

One day, though, the animatronic broke down and Ivan found himself missing Eduard. A few years later, he began to grow sick and was bedridden. One night, he woke up to the feeling of someone sitting on his chest. He looked up and saw Death raising his scythe, about to kill him. He shut his eyes and looked away, but was surprised to hear the soft song of a nightingale. When he opened his eyes, Eduard was perched on the windowsill and Death was nowhere to be seen.
