Matilda had stuck by El, both girls holding each others hands as they sat in one of the classrooms of Hawkins middle school.
"Who do you want to find?" Matilda questioned as she looked up at the younger girl. "Will." El says softly.
Matilda nods. "Alright, I'll look for Barbara." The blonde says as Joyce walked into the classroom. Both girls looked over as Joyce smiled softly to them.
Joyce had started duct taping a set of goggles, keeping it dark. "This will keep it dark for you. Just like in your bathtub." Joyce says as she hands the goggles to El before turning to Matilda.
"Do you need one of those?" Joyce questioned, this made the blonde shake her head. "Thank you." Matilda says softly as she sits atop one of the desks.
Joyce had looked between both girls, her eyes softening. "You're very brave girls. You know that, don't you? Everything you're doing for my boy...for Will...for my family..." Joyce pauses.
Matilda watched as the woman wiped her eyes, sniffling a bit. "Thank you." Joyce says. Matilda looked to her shoes, not thinking she should be one of the ones thanked.
"Listen. I am gonna be there with you the whole time. And if it ever gets too scary...in that place, you just let me know, okay?" Joyce questioned.
"Yes." El says softly as Joyce turned towards Matilda. "Okay?" Joyce questioned which made the blonde look up, shocked at the fact Joyce considered her. "Okay." Matilda says softly.
"Ready?" Joyce questioned, both girls nodding as they stood up. "I'll be right here the whole time." Matilda says softly, El nodding as she looked up at her.

Matilda had walked over to her father. "You're so brave." Jim says as he kissed the top of her head. The blonde smiled softly as she looked at him.
"I'll be right by your side, okay?" Jim questioned. "Okay." Matilda says softly as she shrugged off her denim jacket, Jim grasping it.
Matilda had started taking off her shoes and socks side by side with El, the girl's jeans getting soaked in the salt water as she slowly submerged herself in.
Both girls had started floating on their backs, Matilda's eyes shutting as the lights flickered. The rest of the group all looked around as the lights shut off, their eyes focused on the girls.
When Matilda opened her eyes, she was in the Upside Down. The blonde's lip trembled as she felt the vines and toxic sludge squish beneath her feet.
"Barbara?" Matilda called loudly, her voice coming out as a whisper as she laid in the water. Jim's eyes widened as he looked at Matilda.
