You don’t want to log in.
But you do.
The world loads with a delay this time. Not much, but enough that you notice. The little terrain loading screen lags at 94% for a second too long. Long enough for you to wonder if something’s broken.
Then it drops you in.
You’re at your shack again, but it’s different. The shadows fall in the wrong places. The grass looks... wrong. Greener, maybe. Too green. Artificial. Like someone tried to rebuild it from memory.
You don’t move.
Not yet.
You listen. Nothing.
You take a slow step forward.
Crack.
You freeze.
Not again.
But this time, when you turn, there’s no sign. No figure. Just... something in the corner of your screen.
A message.
Not a chat message. Not system text. It glitches in and out of existence like a bad stream.
< Y/g/n >: Hello?
No. No no no.
You didn’t type that.
Your fingers are trembling and your chat is closed and you swear your mouse hasn’t moved.
But the game sends it again.
< Y/g/n >: Hello?
You open the chat manually. Your input is empty.
And then it replies.
< Null >: i saw you.
You slam the chat shut. Run out of your shack. Into the forest. You need space. Somewhere open. Somewhere safe.
You climb a hill.
You type something—anything.
< Y/g/n >: what do you want?
Silence.
Minutes pass.
Then—
< Null >: you called.
You close the game.
Instantly.
Your heart’s racing. The room is quiet. You stare at your black screen, chest tight, mind spinning.
You didn’t call for him. You never typed anything like that.
But in the silence of your room, in the hum of your PC, a thought claws its way into your head:
Did you?
