Suzie hesitated, her resolve slightly shaken by Ananya's logic. "But what am I supposed to do then? Just pretend like this huge chunk of my life didn't exist?"
Ananya reached out and placed a comforting hand on Suzie's arm. "No, of course not. We'll figure this out. But maybe we should try a different approach first. Remember what we were talking about yesterday? About your accident?"
Suzie frowned. "Yeah... it was a hit-and-run. I don't remember anything about it."
"Exactly!" Ananya exclaimed, a spark of excitement in her eyes. "Someone must have seen something. Someone called the emergency services. Someone must know what happened. Maybe if we can find out who witnessed the accident..." Suzie's eyes widened slightly. "You think they might know about Ansh too?"
"It's possible!" Ananya said, her voice gaining momentum. "Think about it. If someone saw the accident, they might have seen who you were with beforehand. Or maybe the person who helped you knows something about your life at that time. It's a long shot, but it's worth trying before you directly confront Ansh, right?" Suzie considered this, the idea offering a new avenue of investigation that didn't involve immediate confrontation. "Okay," she conceded slowly. "You might be right. But how do we even begin to find a witness after two years?"
"The first step," Ananya said, her mind already working, "is to figure out where you were taken after the accident. Which hospital were you admitted to?""It was City Hospital," Suzie replied, the name clicking into place with a surprising clarity. "That's where Dad said I was taken."
As the bus pulled closer to the university, they began strategizing. "Okay," Ananya said, "so after college, we'll hit the internet, see if we can find anything about accidents around that time, and specifically look for City Hospital records, if possible. And for Ansh..."
"We'll try to be subtle," Suzie finished, a new approach forming in her mind. "No direct questions, but if he talks about old school days, we'll listen carefully. Maybe he'll drop a clue without even realizing it."
They agreed on the plan. The rest of their college day passed in a blur of lectures and campus activities. As usual, after their last class, Suzie and Aditi headed towards the bus stop to go home, while Ananya made plans to meet Kevin.
When Suzie arrived home, the familiar scent of her mother's cooking already wafting from the kitchen, she noticed an unfamiliar pair of shoes by the front door. As she walked towards the living room, she heard the low murmur of voices and the distinct sounds of a video game. Peeking into the room, she saw Rohan on the sofa, controller in hand, intensely focused on the screen. Beside him, perched comfortably on an armchair, was a man she didn't immediately recognize.

He was impeccably dressed in a casual yet smart shirt, his dark hair neatly styled, and his features exuded a calm, intelligent aura. He was engrossed in the game, but when Suzie stepped fully into the room, he looked up. A gentle, polite smile curved his lips, and his eyes, a deep, observant brown, held a warmth that instantly put Suzie at ease. This was Eren Malhotra.
Rohan, sensing Suzie's presence, glanced up from his game. "Oh, hey Suzie! You're home. Eren, this is my sister, Suzie. Suzie, this is Eren Malhotra, my business partner." Eren stood, extending a hand to Suzie. "Pleasure to finally meet you, Suzie. Rohan talks about you often." His voice was smooth and articulate. Suzie returned his smile, shaking his hand. "Nice to meet you too, Eren. I've heard a lot about you from Rohan." Later that evening, the Watson family, joined by Eren, gathered around the dining table. The conversation flowed easily, focusing on lighter topics. Eren was a charming guest, engaging politely with Mr. and Mrs. Watson and sharing anecdotes about the challenges and triumphs of starting their new IT company with Rohan. Suzie found herself studying him occasionally, noting his composed demeanor, so different from the more impulsive Ansh. He seemed genuinely fond of Rohan, their comfortable camaraderie evident in their shared jokes and glances across the table. It was a pleasant evening, a brief respite from the unresolved questions swirling in Suzie's mind.
