This book has a little tiny bit of toxicity in it. If that's not your thing, go ahead and stop reading now. Instead, check out Wait For Me. I promise you'll love it.
I also recommend reading Wait For Me first. But if you don't want to read the whole thing, just read chapters 18, 22, and 31. Both characters from this book are briefly mentioned in that one.
It'll give you a little more context and help some of the references make sense. You won't be completely lost if you skip it, but those chapters add a bit more depth to the storyline and the connections between the characters. Trust me, it's worth it.
Oh and one more thing Skylar is NOTHING like Sha'dae.
