'I'm quitting volleyball.'
Are Kenma's final thoughts before he throws himself onto his bed, face first. His backpack and jacket were tossed mindlessly on the floor as he contemplated his life choices.
Was he being dramatic? Maybe a little. But he was far off from feeling well. He could tell his hair was greasy from sweat without even touching it, and his body was on fire.
Though, he had a hard time figuring out if it was due to practice or the unbearable heat.
'Summer is the worst...' He sighs into his bedsheets, too exhausted to even move his arm to turn on the fan that was less than 3 feet away.
Instead, he grabs his phone out of his pants pocket, craning his face to the side to unlock it. He skimmed through the notifications, which mainly consisted of his uncompleted dailies that he hadn't gotten to yet.
'...man...I missed a lot...' he frowned, mentally preparing to sit up to start his dailies before his eye caught one unique notification buried amoungst the ten.
It was from an online forum, one that he visited often to check for updates on certain games.
He clicked on it, and his heart stopped.
'Shit. Right.'
The 3rd version of Lebrius came out awhile ago, and Kenma swore to himself that he would get it before the selling period ended. After all, it was a limited edition piece, basically a sequel to the first two games. It would definitely be more expensive if he chose to buy it online from a reseller, and unfortunately, he only just remembered now.
He suddenly found the energy to remove himself from his bed and dig into his backpack to fish out his wallet. Kenma then checked the time.
5:26 PM
He quickly put back on his jacket as he headed down the stairs.
"Hm? Kenma? Leaving again already?" His mom called out to him with a raised brow as he passed by the living room.
"I'm heading to the store."
"New game?"
"Maybe."
"That's a yes then." He furrowed his eyebrows at her assertion.
She just smiles at him, "Stay safe. And don't burn through all of your allowance."
"I've never done that."
"You've gotten close, though."
"Sure." He huffs as he puts on his outdoor shoes to leave.
"Always so easily irritable after practice...." she sighed quietly-more in amusement than anything-before returning to whatever she was doing prior.

Even though it was nearly 6 p.m., it was still ridiculously hot.
'Summer is seriously the worst.' Kenma mentally emphasizes again in annoyance, walking down the familiar streets of Tokyo as the sun prepares itself to set.
'Maybe I should've left my jacket home...' he thought regretfully as he felt his jacket begin to heat up like it was fresh out of the dryer.
It was only when he arrived at the game shop that he felt a sense of relief. Partly from the cool breeze that hit him when he stepped through the entrance, but mainly due to the giddy feeling that grew from the prospect of getting his hands on this game.
The shop was practically empty, allowing it to show off the rows of shelves with unique game covers, vibrant posters, and displays for different gaming consoles.
There seemed to be only one other person present besides the employee, and he could see the back of their long, wavy black hair.
A girl, he thinks, though, he's never seen her around before. But he quickly ignores it and heads to the opposite side of the store to search for the game. He scanned the shelves, looking for the familiar design cover. He nearly gives up hope until he sees it on the 5th row near the back. Suddenly, his weariness slowly dissipates as he reaches to pull out the case by its upper corner.
...Only for a hand to make contact with his.
Kenma immediately retracts his hand, startled. But clearly, that was a dumb move because the other person grabs it without hesitatation.
Usually, he'd simply back away feeling displeased, but if Kenma was being honest, he was pissed. After all, he walked 8 minutes after getting home from practice to purchase this. Plus, the thing was limited edition and clearly the last of it at this specific shop.
He was not just going to leave without getting the thing he came for!
"Uhm-sorry-I think I had that first," he hesitatantly spoke, a little more quieter than he would've liked, and a lot less assertive than he sounded in his head.
As he looked properly at the thief, he realized that it was the girl he had seen earlier.
She had the same wavy black hair, and now he could tell that she was exactly his height, and maybe around his age too. Though, she also looked a lot more dead up close. She had a clear, red blush under her eyes-whether it was from crying or sleep deprivation was not any of Kenma's business-and her bangs were curled into weird directions.
"....We literally got here at the same time," she deadpans.
"Uh. But I touched it first," he argued, frowning.
"Well, then you let go of it," she fired back calmly.
"Cause you touched me?"
"Didn't mean to. You were quicker to reach out."
"So you admit that I touched it first."
"I didn't deny that you did, I just denied that you had it first. Cause you didn't. You didn't pull it out."
"How is there a difference?"
"It wasn't in your possession."
Kenma only had one thought, '...This girl is seriously annoying...'
He then internally debated whether or not he should continue fighting. Or decide that this was too tiring and back down.
But she seemed to make that choice for him as she wordlessly turned around and headed to the checkout counter.
At this point, Kenma didn't feel like causing a scene in a store he was a regular at over a game, so he begrudgingly left. Frankly, he was too tired to even look around to find another game or bother trying to figure out why she looked so weirdly familiar.
