Chapter 14: Spider Girl

She was lying peacefully on the bed, hands folded on her stomach, looking like she might've kicked the bucket—except she was just sleeping.

Chi Fengxiao snorted, "So laid-back," and headed to the living room while towel-drying his hair.

A bit later, his manager Zhao came by.

"You've been playing dead as a corpse on set to treat your insomnia for months now. It's time to get back to real work. There aren't any good scripts right now, but there is this variety show you need to take."

Chi Fengxiao scoffed. "Escape with the Beloved? What kind of weird parent-child survival show is that? Do I look like someone who has a kid?"

"Don't you have any suitable-aged kids in your family? As long as they're over four, it works."

"We don't have those creatures in our family. Unless the old man has an illegitimate kid or something." He said it offhandedly, forgetting there was someone at home now.

Zhao: "If the chairman heard that, he'd break your legs."

"Alright, I'll use my niece to fill in temporarily. This show's got potential—it'd be a shame to miss it."

Chi Fengxiao raised an eyebrow. "You think the show will buy it?"

"Apparently a few other guests are doing the same thing. It should be fine."

"Alright, make the arrangements."

"The show's doing a surprise visit tomorrow morning. This place is a pigsty. I'll send someone to clean it."

"Yeah, yeah, now get lost. I've got games to play."

Zhao left, still worried.

Chi Fengxiao immediately forgot about the conversation, gamed all night, and crashed at dawn.

At 7:30 a.m., the Escape with the Beloved crew showed up at his place.

"Good morning, dear viewers in the livestream!" the producer beamed at the camera. "We're now at Chi Fengxiao's front door, ready for a surprise shoot!"

The producer led the crew into the apartment and slowly, slowly opened a door.

And what did they see?

Chi Qian hadn't slept well and was stretching early in the morning. Just as they opened the door, she was doing a deep backbend.

Her long black hair cascaded to the floor. Her upside-down face stared directly at the stunned crew in the doorway.

A thief?!

She didn't have time to stand up. Instead, she scrambled on all fours—in the exact same backbend position—charging at them like a terrifyingly nimble spider!

Crew: "AAAHHHHH!!!"

"A GHOST!!!"

The piercing screams echoed through the halls. The crew dropped their expensive equipment and fled.

One poor cameraman tripped and fell. When he turned around, the spider girl was already upon him!

He screamed and flailed on the floor, barely moving two centimeters.

"We were gonna ask you that!" the producer wailed from the hallway. "What is that?!"

Chi Fengxiao's brain started functioning again. He looked more closely at the spider girl. "Chi Qian?"

"It's me." Chi Qian opened her mouth, which—combined with her current posture—looked even more horrifying.
