Author's POV
The sleek black car pulled up to the grand mansion gates, the emblem on the hood gleaming under the afternoon sun. Jeon Jungkook stepped out, his black leather jacket and designer duffel slung over his broad shoulder. Years of studying abroad had sharpened his already striking features, and a certain air of aloof confidence radiated from him. The sweet aura he once had was now replaced with an indifferent and cold look.
He marched into the house, and his mother came to him with a loving expression.
Mrs. Jeon: Jungkook, I missed you so much, dear. You've grown so much. How are you, my dear? Have you been eating well? You seem kind of thin.
Jungkook: I'm fine, Mom. I'm tired. I'm going to my room.
Mrs. Jeon felt disappointed at his dry reply. It had been so long since she last saw her son, yet he couldn't even talk to her properly or ask about her.
Jungkook's POV
Damn, so much has changed in Korea since I left.
I really don't want to be here.
It's annoying now that all of my steps will be watched.
Tomorrow I'll have to go to the company.
So frustrating.
I freshened up and went to bed. Mom came to my room, but I wasn't in the mood to talk, so I pretended to be asleep.
Yeah, I was mad at them. They sent me away like that—I didn't even want to go, but they forced me.
I had to go through so much on my own.
The next morning, I went downstairs in my neatly pressed black suit.
From today onwards, I'd have to start working.
Apparently, my father really wants to hand me the burden as soon as possible.
At the dining table, my parents were already having breakfast.
Mrs. Jeon: Good morning, Jungkook! Big day today. Are you excited?
Jungkook: Sure, Mom.
Mrs. Jeon: What's with you, Jungkook? You don't seem like before.
Jungkook: Well, I've grown up, Mom.
Mr. Jeon: Jungkook, don't be rude to your mother.
Jungkook: I'm not. I'm just stating the facts.
Mr. Jeon: Have you prepared your speech for the ceremony today?
Jungkook: Yes, Dad.
Mr. Jeon: Good. It's time to leave.
Author's POV
They all got into the car and left for Jeon Corporation—Mr. Jeon's legacy that he was about to pass to his son. He had a wide smile on his face as he stepped out of the car.
On the contrary, Jungkook wore a cold, unreadable expression as they entered the company.
Mr. Jeon: I am so happy to finally introduce my son, Jeon Jungkook! From today onwards, he will be leading Jeon Corporation as the new CEO. I hope he does a fantastic job.
Everyone clapped, while Mrs. Jeon and Mr. Jeon were beaming with pride. Jungkook, however, was just annoyed and wanted to escape the crowd. He didn't like crowds.
The Jeon family left the stage and went to Mr. Jeon's office, which was now going to be handed over to Jungkook.
Mr. Jeon: Here, son.
He guided Jungkook to the chair in the office.
Mr. Jeon: You are the CEO now, son. I hope you make me proud.
Jungkook: I'll try my best, Dad. (with a fake smile)
Mrs. Jeon: I am so proud of you, son.
As the day went by, Jungkook did his best, as his father's eyes never left him. Just like that, the workday ended, and they all left for home together.
