Something shifted after that class.

It wasn't loud, no one confronted her, no one called her out, but Seulgi could feel it—the subtle shift in the way people glanced at her in the hallway, quick looks followed by whispers, heads tilted just slightly when she passed by.

It was like walking through a fog of curiosity she never asked for.

She ignored it, she always did.

But that didn't mean she didn't notice.

By lunchtime, the silence around her felt heavier.

"Is that her?"

"She really said no to Jaeyi?"

"Who even is she?"

The questions weren't directed at her, but they buzzed around her like invisible flies. Even the cafeteria felt unfamiliar, as if she had stepped into someone else's story without asking.

She chose a quiet spot near the back, same as always. No one joined her, not that she expected anyone to.

But then, just as she was about to pull out her drink-

"Hey."

Ara plopped down across from her like she belonged there. Seulgi didn't flinch. Instead, she calmly sipped from her juice box.

"You caused a storm, y'know," Ara said casually, picking at a slice of bread like it wasn't a big deal.

"I didn't do anything," Seulgi replied.

"Exactly. That's what makes it worse," Ara laughed. "Nobody ever tells Jaeyi no. Not teachers. Not even upperclassmen. But you?"

Seulgi raised an eyebrow, uninterested.

"You're kind of a legend now," Ara added with a smirk.

Seulgi didn't want that title. She didn't even want the attention. All she wanted was some peace and a normal day—but apparently, that was too much to ask.

Across the cafeteria, Yoo Jaeyi sat with her friends like always. Calm. Composed. Beautiful in a way that drew people in without effort. But every so often, her eyes wandered-searching-and always landing on Seulgi.

And Seulgi? She felt it each time, like a quiet tug on her sleeve.

Later that day, as Seulgi passed by the school garden, she noticed something strange. A flyer for the photography club was pinned to the bulletin board. It hadn't been there yesterday. She wouldn't have cared, except-

Jaeyi was standing in front of the board. Alone. Reading.

As if she was waiting.

Seulgi turned away before their eyes could meet.

She didn't want to get dragged into someone else's world. Not Jaeyi's. Not anyone's.

But as she walked off, Ara's voice echoed faintly in her mind.

"Careful... You just caught the attention of someone who's not used to being told no." But she just sighs and shakes it off.

After walking away from the garden, Seulgi headed straight to the library.

She likes it here—the silence doesn't feel like pressure. No one whispers her name, no one stares. Just the low hum of the aircon and the occasional sound of pages flipping. She settles near the far window, pretending to review her notes. Truthfully, her eyes aren't moving.
