"What do you want?" You suddenly spoke up.
The man was impressed but also taken back as you spoke. He chuckled, looking to his buddies as a silent way of asking if they were seeing this.
He turned back to you. "Money. That's all this is about. Money. In fact, I desire about 1 million of it."
"Well I don't have the kind of money." You pointed out.
The man chuckled once more as he crouched before you. "I know you don't, sweetheart. But that's not why we are here."
You gave him a confused look.
"It's your boyfriend we want. The money is just to persuade us to not kill you once we get him but... We will kill him." The man confirmed.
"Max has survived much in his life, what makes you think you got what it takes to take him out?"
The man let out a full laugh at your boldness, "Sweetheart, look around! I have eleven men, eleven guns. What does your little boy you have, hmm?"
You dry swallowed again. "He has heart."
The man scoffed as you continued, "He has the ability to outsmart and plan accordingly. But most of all, he has nothing to lose." You smirked.
"Think about it, he has a limp, lost his job as a detective two years ago over a technicality. All he has is me and you took that away. He has nothing left to lose and will stop at nothing to get me back. You really think your 12 man army is enough to stop a man with nothing but spite?" You raised a brow and smirked at them.
Just then a loud boom as heard, shaking the building that stood beside the Dark wood Harbour. You snickered,
"Here comes the Calvary."
The man backed away from you, barking orders at his men who ran out of the room one by one. Leaving you completely alone.
You began to pull at your restraints while gun fire sounded around the building. Max had taught you a lot.
"If the chair is wood, smash it." His voice echoed I'm your head.
You stood up, as best as you could and sat back down roughly. You repeated this over and over again until the chair collapsed into pieces.
You sat up from the ground slowly with a groan. You pulled the tape still around your wrists before coming to a stand.
You rushed to the metal door and tried the handle, it was locked. Of course.
You took a deep breath, trying to gather your thoughts and think of a plan when your eyes fell on the smashed wood.
---
Max knew Sternwood would be of great help. Sternwood got the high ground while Max got low. Sternwood covered Max from his vantage point.
Eliminating the 12 men with ease.
Max gathered amo from the dead bodies before raising his walkie to talk, "Let's re-up at the entrance. We'll go in together."
Sternwood didn't respond, just quietly waiting for Max at the entrance.
Max kicked in the door, aiming his gun wherever he looked as did Sternwood who was behind him.
They traveled down each hallway without an issue before coming to a metal door. Max went to open it when Sternwood grabbed his shoulder.
"What?" Max stopped his movements.
"Let me open it, if she's... You don't wanna see that." Sternwood warned sensitively. But this only sparked a fire in Max. If you were dead, he needed to see.
Max ripped the door open and walked in. He scanned the room and saw nothing. "I don't see-"
You rushed at the figure in the doorway with a sharp piece of wood in your grasp. You tackled the man and went for the stab.
"Y/N! Y/N! It's me! It's Max!" He covered his face with his arms to dodge your stab, thankfully it never came.
"Max!?" You smiled with relief, throwing the wood and throwing your arms around Max who in return wrapped his arms around your waist. One hand buried into your hair as he let out a sigh of relief.
Tears built up in Max's eyes, "I'm so glad you're okay, baby." His arms tighten around you.
"Max." You tried not to cry but you couldn't help it. You may have been mouthy but you were still terrified and prayed that Max would be safe and come home with you.
Max picked himself up with you in his arms. He tried to calm his breathing as he didn't want to cry himself but was quickly losing the battle as he carried you out of the building. Sternwood followed behind with a small smile at the sight, he couldn't help but imagine his own son. Alive and well with a beautiful girl in his arms.
As Max exited the building, the sun was rising. He took a minute to admire its beauty. "Baby, look." The light was blinding but the hues were like nothing you have ever seen before.
Max buried his head into your next, taking in your scent while you leaned your head on his.
You pulled away and kissed his head softly. "Take me home, My love?"
Max nodded, "Yeah. Yeah, baby. Of course."
---
The car ride was silent but comfortable. Max sat in the back seat with you in his arms, head resting on his chest as you were sound asleep.
Max caressed your body the entire way as Sternwood drove. Sternwood watched the two of you through the review mirror. It was cute to see.
Soon they pulled into your drive way. Sternwood got out of the car and opened the back door for you and Max. You were still asleep so Max gave Sternwood the house keys, "Open the door for me."
Max grabbed you gently, holding you bridal style as he carried you into the house. Glass crunches under his foot but he didn't care. His eyes never left your face.
He entered the bedroom, laying you down on the bed. He covered you up with a soft blanket and kissed your head.
Sternwood leaned against the doorframe, watching the scene before him.
Max's thumb slid down your cheek as he gazed at you lovingly. "Nothing will ever hurt you again, baby. I promise." He whispered.
Max looked up as he heard steps retreating from the area. He closed the bedroom door and followed the sound.
"Sternwood."
Sternwood stopped at the door but didn't face Max.
"Thank you." Max was sincere, we always was when it came to Y/n.
Sternwood looked over his shoulder, "Just keep her safe, Max. You'll never know the last time you'll hold her." Sternwood them walked out the door, making sure to lock it before leaving.
---
Two hours had passed, it was fully daytime now and Max had just finished cleaning up the house. Some furniture was now in the trash but they could be easily replaced.
Max stripped as he made his way to the bedroom, clothes thrown into the laundry basket at the end of the bed.
Max crawled into bed right behind you. He wrapped an arm around your waist, pulling you tightly against him. He kissed your shoulder and head before relaxing.
He hid his face in your hair and began to fall asleep. Tomorrow he'd help you deal with anything trauma or fears that you had but for now, he's protect you while you sleep. Warding off any nightmares that come for his baby.
The end!
