Good evening.
My name is Ryan Cier and I'm an aspiring author from Virginia. As of the Seventeenth of August in the Year of Our Daddy 2024, this is my first Medium article. I haven't written a blog in seven years. So, please, allow me to ride out the growing pains. I'm ready to have some fun!
Today, I'll give a brief abridgment on how I got started writing. In terms of accomplishments, our story starts in 2011. You see, at that time, I was writing for two different canons/universes. The first one was a story called "Mythewood". I would go on to publish this, through Amazon, back in 2015/2016. It was a trilogy set in a "High Fantasy Coming-Of-Age" world. The second story was called "E-Lunar", and it was a collection of four books. It juxtaposed Mythewood with having themes and tones of a more "Low Fantasy Sci-Fi Thriller Romance" bend, as opposed to "High Fantasy".
"Mythewood" told the tale of a high schooler named Henri (Awn-Ree) Cartesia and his friends Sara, Tavin, and James. The four friends were a group of local paranormal investigators. However, Henri would soon come to learn that his distant French ancestry was full of a bunch of magical paladins who, once upon a time, defeated an evil mage family known as the Trudsworth Mage Clan. Henri also had a long-lost brother named Blake, who he would have to defeat somehow. (Henri was also both Cartesia and Trudsworth, but same for Blake!) Henri's high school, Crowfield High, was also full of teachers who were secretly sorcerers. (How original! /s)
Later, I would come to write "E-Lunar" on Wattpad. You see, back in the years of 2015–2018, I had my little fifteen seconds of fame on Wattpad. Around 2019, however, I pulled back a lot from the site. I saw the writing on the wall, and that is a conversation for another day! Alas, the first book in the "E-Lunar" series, "Phenomenon: E-Lunar" was a somewhat political thriller story. The Celtic God of Apples, Abbellio, comes to Earth on a mission. But he forgets what it is! He takes on the form of a high school student named Bel Cosmonysus. (Like "cosmos" and "Dionysus", 'cuz I'm just so clever like that!) Bel has a special ability to briefly mind-control people if he can get them to hold an apple at the same time he does. Hijinx ensues as he tries to undermine the classism and prejudice of his aristocratic school!
The sequel to that, "Phylactery: E-Lunar", was a huge pivot from the first. The protagonist this time around, Evrich Nielson, is an aspiring pilot who learns to fly giant Mecha robots. I wrote the story in first-person POV, so it comes off a lot more like a Visual Novel. It was also my first attempt at writing 18+ Scenes (if ya pick up what I'm puttin' down). The story goes more in-depth into the world, the characters, and their aspirations. It is much more grounded and mundane, as well as romantic. Evrich goes through two love interests (much like Spiderman). First, an aristocratic but kindhearted young woman named Lily Aaroncroft. Then, a more heady and analytical college student named Aiko Anohana ('ohana' means family, and we don't abandon family!). Their stories are explorations into different types of romance. At least, that was my intention.
Then, I got into writing a series called, "Hallowed Kaline", then another series called, "N-Sequence", but lately... I've been enjoying a lot of personal development in the privacy of my own Google Docs!
