—POV Malleus ๑۩۞۩๑
The farewell party at Diasomnia was in full swing — or at least, it tried to be.
Solemn music filled the gothic hall, adorned with green tapestries and chandeliers that shed a dim light, as if even the ancient architecture feared shining too brightly that night. Everyone was gathered: students from various dorms, professors, friends... all there for Lilia Vanrouge. The old warrior laughed loudly, trying to keep the spirit of the celebration alive, but there was something broken in the air — something no one dared to name.
And I wasn't there.
I took a long time to arrive. The guilt, the pain... were storms raging inside me. But when I saw Silver crying in the forest, I understood I wasn't the only one about to lose something precious. We walked together, back to the hall, where everything already seemed decided.
As I stepped through the gates of the party, all attention turned to me. My footsteps echoed like muffled thunder, the room freezing for a moment.
"Malleus?" Lilia called out, confused.
I walked to the center of the hall, my eyes fixed on everyone present. My chest burned — not with anger, but something deeper, sadder. And then, I opened my arms.
"So I ask that you all accept this gift, from the bottom of my heart."
Lilia narrowed his eyes.
"Gift...? Malleus, what are you planning?"
I looked at everyone, my tone solemn but gentle.
"Listen to me well, all of you! I bring a wonderful gift!"
A murmur of unease rippled through the guests.
"There will be no more tears, no more goodbyes. This party will not mark an end... but rather, a beginning!"
Silver stepped forward.
"A... beginning?"
I smiled — a smile that wasn't mine, not like before.
"Exactly. Today, you will all be reborn. Into a world without sorrow. A world where you will never lose anyone again... not friends, not family."
The hall sank into a dense, oppressive silence.
Crowley rushed forward, alarmed.
"Draconia?! What are you doing?!"
Grim gasped, his fur on end.
"Mrah?! My fur's standing up all over!"
''Tsunotaro...? My legs are shaking...'' Yuu whispered, in a tone that pierced my chest like a cold blade.
A sharp sound split the air — the magic alarm.
Ortho was scanning the room frantically.
"Blot density rising rapidly. Magical disaster alert. Immediate evacuation recommended!"
Crowley shouted, his voice desperate:
"Magical disaster...?! Everyone, offensive magic is authorized! Stop Draconia immediately!"
But it was already too late.
My magic, long restrained — my pain, long buried — broke through every barrier. The green flames that once obeyed me turned black as pitch. My eyes burned like poisoned embers, and the shadows twisted around me like hungry serpents.
I had fallen into Overblot.
Like the great sorcerers in the records of old, Overblot consumed me — my rage, my loneliness, my fear of loss... all of it condensed into a terrible form, crowned with thorns and surrounded by lightning. My attire became a distorted version of royal garb, as if a corrupted version of myself had seized the throne of the world.
"This will be the new kingdom. An eternal kingdom, without end... without pain!"
But as the guests stepped back in terror, a voice broke through the darkness:
''Tsunotaro.''
It was Yuu.
"You don't have to do this. You're not alone."
And there, for the first time...
I hesitated.
