chapter 1 . "The First Break "

1. The Snatch
The last thing she remembered was the *click* of a phone camera, her finger hovering over the "call police" button, before the muzzle of a gun pressed into her spine.

"Move," someone muttered.

Then: darkness.

2. The Cage
She woke up curled on a bare mattress, her wrists zip-tied. The room was concrete, stinking of bleach and sweat. A single bulb swung overhead.

And he, the gang member, slouched in a chair across from her, cleaning his nails with a switchblade.

He didn't look up.

Her voice cracking: "I won't tell anyone. I swear. Just-please. I have a family."

A long silence followed. The gang member finally glanced up. Not at her-at the wall behind her, like she was less than a stain.

Then, so quietly she almost missed it:

"You saw something you shouldn't. Now you are a prisoner to your morals."

He stood, stretched, and walked out-leaving her to decipher the sentence like a death sentence.

3. The Rules (Unspoken)
- When she screamed, he lit a cigarette.
- When she kicked at him, he backhanded her *once*-not hard enough to bruise, just enough to silence her.
- When she sobbed, he left.

No threats. No speeches. Just the certainty of his control.

4. The First Test
Days passed (or hours? Time bled together). A minion tossed in a stale sandwich. She didn't touch it.

The gang member watched from the doorway. Then-
He grabbed her hair, forced her face toward the sandwich, and held it there until she took a bite.

Chew.
Swallow.
- Now= Not a threat. An order.

He let go and walked out.

5. The Realisation
This wasn't kidnapping.

This was training.

And the lesson was simple: You eat when I allow it. You breathe because I allow it.

You are alive at my leisure.

The Visit
He found her curled on the mattress, her lips cracked from thirst. Three days without food. Without words.

Still fighting.

The gang member sighed-not annoyed, not amused. Just tired, like a man watching a dog gnaw its own leg off in a trap.

He crouched, gripped her jaw, and forced her face toward a rotten sandwich on the floor.

"If you want to survive, you will eat."

A pause. Then he pressed his gun to her temple.

"If you want to die..." His thumb cocked the hammer. "I can make it happen."

The barrel was warm. She wondered if it had been used earlier.

"So. What will it be?"

She didn't answer. Just stared at the sandwich-green at the edges, crawling with ants.

Eating meant accepting his world.
Starving meant letting him win.

The gun didn't waver.

A wet sound escaped her throat. Not a sob. A laugh.

The gang leader's eyes flickered-finally something like interest.

She reached for the sandwich.

Her Whispered Defiance
She mumbled through cracked lips, eyes burning up at him:
"I will survive... to see you fall."

The gang member paused. Not because he was moved-but because it was amusing, like a roach waving a toothpick.

He holstered his pistol with a snick and pulled a water bottle from his jacket.
He tossed it at her feet like feeding a stray.

No words. No smirk. Just the *dull thud* of plastic on concrete.

He walked out. Halfway through the door, he flicked the light off-plunging her into darkness.

Last Line:
Somewhere in the black, the water bottle glowed like a ghost.

She drank the water in gulps like punches, half-choking-not sure if it was the liquid or her own sobs that flooded her throat.

Then her body rebelled. She vomited up the rotting sandwich, green bile splattering the concrete. Proof of her shame: She'd tried to eat it. She'd wanted to live.

For the first time since they took her, she let go. Not of hope, but of the fight. Her muscles unclenched. Her breath slowed.

Survive. Not as a martyr. Not as a hero. Just as an animal.
