I opened my eyes, expecting to see the suite’s fancy ceiling, but instead something else meets my vision. A handsome man; maybe a few years older than me, was lying next to me with his eyes closed. Brown hair and fair skin caught my attention as I looked him over.

“Hello?” I whispered to him but he didn’t respond. Worried that something might have happened, I sat up and touched his arm. Instead of feeling the familiar movements of breathing, his body stayed still.

“Crap!” I turned him onto his back and leaned my ear near his slack mouth. Taking a huge lungful of air, I blew air into his mouth. When he didn’t respond, I pressed my hands down against his chest; trying to start his heart.

Repeating the process again, I whipped the sweat from my forehead and sat back as a wave of desperation washed over me. I should have saved him; I have been training for this kind of thing for years!

I shook my head as silent tears fell from my eyes and I cried into my hands.

The sound of coughing met my ears and I looked hopefully up at the man that I had been previously trying to save. I squealed and leaned forward to clutch onto his body as he spit water out of his mouth.

“Oh god, oh god; you’re alive! I can’t believe it!” I pulled away and kissed his shocked face. I jumped up from the floor and started dancing in place; pumping my fist into the air. “I rock, I rock!”

“Excuse me?” he cleared his throat, “Who are you?”

I looked at him and smiled in glee at the reminder that he was alive, “I’m Lydia,” I said. He looked up at me and leaned on his elbows.

               “So Lydia… Where are we?”

“I don’t know the answer to that question,” I frowned and looked around. “But I do know one thing…. We’re on a beach.”

“Really?” he says with sarcasm and I rolled my eyes.

Movement farther down the beach caught my attention and I gasped, “It’s another person!” I yell as I run towards the moving figure.

“Help, she’s hurt!” a boy screamed at me as he carried a girl in his arms.

“Follow me,” I turned and ran towards the shade made from the palm trees and he placed her down on the sparse grass. I took a deep breath and looked into the boys hazel eyes as he looked queasily at the bleeding wound on her thigh.

“You might not want to watch,” I suggested as he turned a shade paler. He nodded distractedly and walked towards the water. I looked towards her thigh and inspected the damage, “Hey, you!” I yelled over to the man that was lying in the sand.

His head snapped towards me and I motioned for him to come to me. “Yeah?” he said breathlessly once he was here.

“I need you to find me anything that could be used as needle and thread,” he nodded his head and flicked his eyes toward the unconscious girl.

               “What’s wro-“

“Look, I just need you to go get what I asked for,” I said sternly and he gave me a hard look before running off.
