They didn't talk about it after. They didn't need to.
A couple of days later, they were making the most of these last moments together...
The water enveloped them in a cool embrace, the world above fading into a distant hum as they descended deeper. Jaeyi adjusted her mask, the sound of her own breath steady in her ears, and glanced over at Seulgi. Her wetsuit clung to her curves, her movements graceful as she kicked through the water, her hair floating around her like a dark halo. The sunlight filtered through the surface above, casting dappled patterns on Seulgi's skin, her face serene, almost ethereal.
They swam side by side, their hands brushing occasionally, the touch sending little shocks through Jaeyi's body. She reached out, her fingers grazing Seulgi's arm, and Seulgi turned to her, her lips curving into a soft smile behind the mask. The silence underwater was profound, broken only by the rhythmic sound of their breathing.
Seulgi pointed to a cluster of coral, its vibrant colors a stark contrast to the blue around them. Jaeyi nodded, following as Seulgi swam closer. They hovered there for a moment, the two of them surrounded by the quiet beauty of the ocean. Jaeyi's heart thudded in her chest, and she wished she could stay here forever, just like this, with Seulgi by her side.
But eventually, they had to surface. The world above rushed back in as they broke through the water, the sounds of the shore filling their ears. Seulgi pulled off her mask, her face flushed, her eyes sparkling. "That was amazing," she said, her voice breathless.
Everything is amazing with you, Jaeyi thought but didn't say. She smiled instead, nodding as they swam back to the shore. The weight of Seulgi's departure was there, lurking in the back of her mind, but for now, she pushed it aside. For now, she just wanted to be with her.
Back at Jaeyi's small apartment, the air felt heavier. They showered separately, the sound of the water running in the background as Jaeyi tried to steady herself. When she stepped out, Seulgi was already in her pajamas, sitting on the edge of the bed, her hair damp, her face soft. Jaeyi's heart skipped a beat.
"Come here," Seulgi said softly, patting the space beside her. Jaeyi hesitated for a moment before sitting down, their thighs brushing. The silence between them was thick, charged, and Jaeyi could feel the tension in the air, the unspoken words hanging between them.
Seulgi reached out, her fingers tracing the back of Jaeyi's hand. "I'm going to miss this," she whispered, her voice barely audible.
Jaeyi's chest tightened. She turned to Seulgi, her eyes searching hers. "You don't have to go," she said, her voice trembling. "You could stay."
Seulgi's gaze dropped, her fingers stilling. "You know I can't," she said quietly. "I have to go back for both of us."
Jaeyi swallowed the lump in her throat. She knew this was coming, but hearing it out loud made it feel more real, more final. She looked at Seulgi, at the way her lips pressed together, the way her shoulders slumped, and something inside her snapped.
Without thinking, she leaned in, her lips brushing against Seulgi's. It was soft at first, tentative, but then Seulgi's hand came up to cup her cheek, and Jaeyi deepened the kiss, her heart pounding in her chest. The world around them faded away until it was just the two of them, their breaths mingling, their bodies pressed together.
When they finally pulled apart, Seulgi's eyes were dark, her chest rising and falling rapidly. "Jaeyi," she breathed, her voice shaky.
Jaeyi didn't say anything. Instead, she leaned in again, her lips trailing down Seulgi's neck, her hands sliding under Seulgi's shirt. Seulgi gasped, her back arching as Jaeyi's fingers found the scar on her stomach, the raised line faint beneath her touch. She traced it gently, her heart aching as she thought about what Seulgi had been through, what she had survived.
Seulgi's hand came up to grip Jaeyi's wrist, her eyes locking onto hers. "Every time I look at the scar, I remember you. It's like you're always there, even when you're not," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion.
Jaeyi kissed her again, pouring everything she couldn't say into the kiss. Her hands moved lower, tugging at Seulgi's pajama bottoms, and Seulgi helped her, their movements clumsy but urgent. When their clothes were finally off, Jaeyi's breath caught. Seulgi was beautiful, her skin glowing in the dim light of the room.
Jaeyi's hands roamed over her body, her touch reverent, as if she was trying to memorize every inch of her. She kissed her way down Seulgi's chest, her stomach, pausing at the scar again before moving lower. Seulgi's breath hitched as Jaeyi's lips found her center, her hands gripping the sheets tightly.
The room was filled with the sound of their breathing, the soft noises Seulgi made as Jaeyi's tongue explored her. Jaeyi's heart was pounding, her own arousal building as she listened to Seulgi's moans, feeling her body tremble beneath her. She pushed her closer and closer to the edge, until Seulgi's back arched off the bed, her cry filling the room.
When it was over, Jaeyi crawled back up Seulgi's body, their foreheads touching as they caught their breath. "I love you," Seulgi whispered, her voice breaking.
Jaeyi's eyes burned with intensity, full of love, but no tears fell. She gazed into Seulgi's eyes, her heart pounding in her chest, "I love you too," she said, her voice barely audible.
They held each other tightly, their bodies entwined, as if they could somehow stop time, as if they could keep this moment from ending. But despite the warmth of Seulgi's embrace, Jaeyi felt the weight of the coming separation—the reminder that Seulgi would soon return to the city to finish her studies. It was a quiet reality, but one they both knew too well.
