A week had passed since the engagement was finalized, and today was the day when Shivansh and Meera would officially exchange rings. Both families were in high spirits, reveling in the joy of this arranged marriage. In such scenarios, it was often the parents who were happier than the bride and groom themselves, and here, both Meera and Shivansh were primarily focused on their families' happiness.
In the living hall, Meera and Shivansh sat together, surrounded by their family members who stood nearby, cheering them on. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and anticipation. Meera's mother, beaming with pride, handed Shivansh the ring and said, "Ye lo beta, pehna do Meera ko."
Before taking the ring, Shivansh glanced at Meera. She had been staring at the floor for the past ten minutes, lost in thought as if she were waiting for a match to ignite a kerosene-soaked life. Her silence spoke volumes about her anxiety and uncertainty.
With a hint of hesitation, Shivansh accepted the ring. As he held Meera's hand to place the ring on her finger, his mother chimed in playfully, "Jaldi se phanna do beta! Fir ye humari ghar ki bahu ban jayegi!" Her teasing tone lightened the mood slightly.
As Shivansh slipped the ring onto Meera's finger, he felt her cold hands-an indication of her nervousness. Sensing her anxiety, he gently massaged her palms with his thumbs. Meera looked up at him, meeting his gaze for the first time since they had sat down. Shivansh nodded reassuringly, silently conveying that everything would be alright.
Meera managed a faint smile as she nodded back, though it was clear that her heart wasn't fully in it. After exchanging rings, both families congratulated each other warmly.
Just then, someone asked Pandit Ji about an auspicious date for the wedding. "Agle 2 mahine mein 21 January ka muhurat sabse shubh hai," he replied confidently.
Hearing this date made Meera's heart race with nervousness. She felt overwhelmed by the rapid progression toward marriage. Shivansh noticed her discomfort and turned to his parents with concern. "Agar aap logon ko koi pareshani na ho toh main Meera ko kuch din ke liye vacation pe le jana chahta hoon. Main chahta hoon ki shaadi se pehle jitne din bache hain wo apni life ko enjoy kar sake."
Aditi couldn't resist teasing her sister. "Didi! Dekho jiju toh aapke bina reh nahi pa rahe hain! Ab vacation pe bhi le jana chahte hain!"
Meera's mother laughed lightly but added with a hint of seriousness, "Arey beta, tumse shadi karke konsa wo apni life nahi jiyegi? Vesse bhi 2 months hi toh hain! Kya wo kahi bhaag jayegi?"
Meera felt awkward but managed to smile at her mother's words. Shivansh quickly defended himself, saying, "Jii aunty, aapne bilkul sahi kaha! Meera mujse shadi karke bhi apni life jiyegi. Aur main chahta hoon ki wo shaadi ke baad apni studies continue rakhe-jo bhi uske dreams hain unhe pura kare."
Shivansh's parents nodded in agreement, appreciating his perspective on Meera's future.
"And rahi baat vacation ki," Shivansh continued, "toh wo isliye kyunki sab kuch itna jaldi ho raha hai. I think usse thoda relax hone ka mauka milna chahiye. Main ek bahut achi jagah jaanta hoon jahan use kaafi acha lagega. Agar aap agree karein toh main use 1-2 week ke liye le jana chahta hoon; agar Aditi bhi join karna chahe toh aa sakti hai."
The room filled with murmurs of approval as everyone considered Shivansh's thoughtful suggestion. It was evident that he genuinely cared about Meera's well-being and wanted to ensure she felt comfortable before stepping into this new phase of life
After discussing the vacation Shivansh had planned, everyone enjoyed their meal, chatting about their daily lives. However, Meera found herself focused on Shivansh, who seemed reluctant to share his thoughts on what he was planning to do.
Ye akhir karna kya chahta hai? she pondered anxiously. Ek to sab itna jaldi ho raha hai! Mujhe nahi pata tha ki engagement ke baad sirf do mahine mein meri shaadi bhi fix ho jayegi, lekin ab ye vacation bhi... ye honeymoon to nahi hoga na? The thought raced through her mind. Kya pata ye wahi ho kyunki jo speed se sab ho raha hai, sab bolenge ki ab bache bhi kar lo! Nahi, Bhagwan, please mujhe bacha lo! Ek to ye shaadi wala part abhi tak digest nahi ho raha, ye bache wala kaise karungi?
She shook her head, trying to dismiss her spiraling thoughts. I guess main overthink kar rahi hoon. Haan, overthink hi kar rahi hoon. Itna nahi sochna chahiye, Meera. Just stay calm.
With a determined effort to distract herself, Meera took a bite from her plate. The flavors burst in her mouth, momentarily mesmerizing her. She closed her eyes and savored the taste, allowing herself to express her emotions through the simple pleasure of food.
At that moment, Shivansh's gaze fell upon her. He noticed how she had transformed from a worried soul into someone who could find joy in a meal-her childish antics brought a smile to his face. Abhi toh ye dukhi aatma banke baithi thi, ab khane se hi khush hogayi! Kitni nautanki ladki hai, he thought with amusement.
Shivansh couldn't help but reflect on his earlier assumptions about Meera. He had initially thought she might not want to get married and was unclear about her future. Shayad regret karegi, he mused, lekin vacation se fix ho jayegi shayad... He shook his head slightly at his own thoughts. Chhodo mujhe kya,Lekin uski muskurahat... wo cute lag rahi hai!
Inwardly chastising himself for being distracted by her charm, he reminded himself of their age difference-he was 24 and she was just 19. Ye kya soch raha hoon? Buddhu bachi hai wo!
