I put the acoustic guitar down and cleared my throat again.
I was stalling. Of course, I was fucking stalling.
I didn't have the courage anymore, so I jumped into a monologue. "So, if any of you have opened Spotify since coming here, which I really hope is not the case. You would notice that there is an unmarked timer on my page leading for now. Now if you had checked a minute ago, there would be a new release. But to all the people who are here today, right now. Don't worry, cause I got you. Today, I have someone very special that is here all the way from LA to perform the song for you."
I said as Jake entered the stage. He wasn't looking at the audience. He wasn't waving at anyone. He was looking at straight at me and I looked away, not being able to hold the eye contact. I turned away walking to the edge of the stage.
I knelt at the edge singing the first few lines. Jake stepped right next to me and it was easy to let the choreography take over my body rather than calculate my moves, because my brain went blank the second Jakes fingers threaded through my hair. His fingertips pressed into my scalp as I let my head fall back to it. I sang my part as I started to get up only to be assisted by Jake. As I stepped back, singing. I needed to be as far away from him as possible because I don't know what I would do.
Jake sat on the piano bench playing the chords on a guitar as I knelt on the bench, singing the rest. I leaned against his and pointed my mic to him as he sang his part. The crowd seemed to lose it when Jake and I harmonized.
I stepped off the bench singing the bridge that was until Jake followed soon. He finished singing his part and realized he was so close that we were basically chest to chest. But as the song finished, Jake did something I never expected. He kissed me.
I was shocked. And so was the audience.
Fuck.
