The soft hum of machinery filled the air, a constant reminder of the perfection that governed the world. The sunlight that filtered through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the apartment complex seemed almost artificial—too perfectly angled, too clean. Every corner of the city was like this, sharp and sterile, a place where everything ran like clockwork, where emotions were regulated, and chaos had no place.

Lee Know woke to the soft pulse of his emotion-regulating device buzzing on his wrist. He didn't need to check it—he could feel it adjusting his mood before his conscious mind even recognized it. Today would be another efficient day.

With a practiced hand, he brushed back his messy hair, slicking it into a neat style as he slipped out of bed. The morning routine was flawless, as always. He stretched his arms and then made his way into the sleek bathroom of his shared apartment. Chan was already in the shower, the sound of water mixing with the low hum of the city below. It was almost like a ritual, the beginning of every day in their life together.

"You up?" Chan's voice echoed from the bathroom.

"Of course," Lee Know replied with a smirk, standing in front of the mirror as he adjusted his uniform—pressed, pristine, the way it was meant to be.

"Don't take too long. We have a lot to do today," Chan said, his voice muffled as the water hit the walls.

Lee Know smiled as he walked toward the small kitchen, preparing two cups of the perfectly measured morning drink. The coffee was as controlled as everything else—no surprise, no deviation from the norm. Their lives were structured, every moment planned down to the second.

After a few minutes, Chan appeared, towel around his waist, his damp hair sticking to his forehead.

"Morning," Lee Know said, handing him a cup.

"Morning," Chan replied, gratefully taking the drink. He took a sip, his eyes gleaming with the usual quiet determination. They had both risen to positions of trust in the system, Lee Know managing administration and tech, while Chan worked in the more physically demanding sectors. But despite their differences, they had built a life together—a life that ran smoothly, efficiently.

"Any issues today?" Lee Know asked, leaning against the counter as he watched his partner finish his coffee."Nope, all systems are good. You?"

"Same. Another perfect day," Lee Know replied, his tone matter-of-fact.Chan nodded, the weight of their roles settling on him like it always did. They were the ones everyone looked to for stability. The ones who kept things running.

As they stepped outside their apartment into the cool, controlled air of t

he city, the streets hummed with the synchronized pace of thousands of citizens, all walking in perfect harmony. The towering buildings above them glittered with neon lights, advertising the latest advancements in emotion-regulation technology. Drones zipped overhead, keeping watch over the city as they made their way to work.

Hyunjin arrived at the train station on time, as always. He slid his ID card into the reader, letting it scan his wrist device. It buzzed lightly, confirming his identity, before allowing him entry. He glanced around, noticing the subtle shift in the atmosphere—there was something off today. But he couldn't quite place it.

His uniform was pristine, his emotion level perfectly adjusted. He was a model citizen, after all. Still, something in his gut twisted, just for a moment. He shook it off."Good morning," Seungmin said, appearing beside him with his ever-present smile. "Ready for another day?"

Hyunjin nodded, though his mind was elsewhere. He couldn't help but wonder why the people around him were so... robotic. It was as if everything was too perfect. No one ever questioned it, and he didn't, either—at least not until recently.

As the day wore on, the group of friends found themselves together in one of the sleek, tech-filled classrooms. The walls were lined with glowing panels, displaying information that kept everyone in line, regulated and focused.

Lee Know and Chan stood near the front, as they often did, organizing tasks and ensuring everything was running smoothly. The students and workers admired them, silently respecting their ability to stay on top of everything, to maintain the order that everyone depended on.

Meanwhile, Hyunjin sat at the back, his eyes darting to the side, scanning the others. There was a slight disturbance in the air today, something his device couldn't quite correct. It buzzed on his wrist, but it didn't stop the gnawing feeling in the pit of his stomach.

"I've been hearing rumors," he said, his voice low as he leaned toward Han beside him. "About glitches. People remembering things that didn't happen. People disappearing."Han raised an eyebrow. "You've been listening to too much of that underground talk. Everything is fine. We're perfectly fine."

But Hyunjin couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. Something he couldn't quite place.

Later that afternoon, the group sat together in a controlled, quiet space, preparing for their assigned tasks. Changbin, a bit more laid back in his manner, noticed something strange. A student across the room, acting out of line. The system adjusted the person's emotion level with a brief, almost imperceptible flicker in the air. But it was enough to make Changbin stop and look.

"Did anyone see that?" Changbin asked, narrowing his eyes. The student had calmed immediately, as if nothing had happened.

No one responded, and the day continued as if nothing were amiss.

As the group returned to their apartments, the routine was the same. The evening passed quietly. But as Hyunjin sat on his bed, staring at the glowing light of his emotion-regulating device, a sense of unease gnawed at him. He couldn't shake it. There was something—something more beneath the surface of this perfect world. The perfect world that he had always believed in.
