Prologue:
Soru, my dear son, runs out the door and into his best friend Meito's arms. My beautiful daughter Luna gets ready to go on a date with Charu, her boyfriend I think. I came out of retirement to train this group they have put together, and I find myself reaching out to some old friends for help. I know they can train these kids to bigger potential. It's been so long since I've talked to them. Reminds me of my time being trained.
Chapter 1
many years before...
"Santiago?"
"huh?" I look up, I guess I was spacing out in class again.
"Would you like to introduce yourself?" Ms. Smith is always nice about me spacing out, one of the only things that are actually decent about this place.
"Does everyone not already know each other?" I look around the room, and i do see a few new people, so I stand up and go to the front, I glance around the room, seeing everyone in the identical 'military' uniforms, I hate how they make us wear these. I breathe in and talk, "Uh, my name is Santiago Dabaru, I'm 19, and my Soul Ability is temperature control, pleasure to meet everyone I haven't yet. I hope everyone has the best time they can." I get a bit nervous in front of crowds sometimes, but I'm pretty outgoing so I'm getting used to things like this.
"Thank you Santiago, please take your seat."
As I sit down Mark smirks at me, even though he's my best friend his face is so punchable. "Introducing your ability along with your name? Bold man haha!" he giggles to himself as I sit next to him.
"I trust everyone here, eventually we're gonna be teammates right? At least coworkers."
"I guess so, I saw Akesh trying not to laugh at you too!" I swear all my friends are assholes. The class goes on as we learn about practically nothing. When we get dismissed for chow, I look for my friends to start heading to the mess hall in this massive building. I enter the hallway, and already see Mark and Akesh talking.
"Hey guys! Where's Syrax?" I ask while looking around.
"Her and Jess already headed to the mess hall, we decided to wait for our favorite pink-haired guy!" Akesh gleams, she is always upbeat, a huge smile on her face no matter what's happening, all while breaking the rules, she always wears a huge baggy jacket over her uniform, breaking dress code.
"You can't make fun of me, miss blue-hair!" I jab back at her.
"Hey, it's natural!" Is she dumb?
"We've been over this, MINE IS NATURAL TOO"
Mark speaks up after me, "yeah guys mine is natural too haha."
We both look over at his brown hair. "Really..." we say simultaneously. I punch mark in the arm and we all head down to the mess hall.
When we get there, Syrax and Jess are already eating there, we grab food and sit down with them. Then Syrax speaks up "So... didjya guys see that new girl?? The one with the black hair? And the creepy red eyes? She's quite old to be joining this late... I think she's 18?"
Jess speaks up after her, "yeah, i thought it was weird, cus all of us were taken here as kids."
That is kinda weird. But she's just another person that has to be trapped here by the military. "Well, let's not treat her any different, she's still one of us." I say before eating a piece of cooked broccoli.
"Always the nice guy, huh Santiago??" Mark chuckles.
"Oh shaddup" After Chow wraps up, we all head to the gymnasium for combat training. Coach Serina is our age, so it's always confusing how she can run this whole section, but she's good at what she does so it makes sense.
