Riley Evans POV

A small groan emitted from my body as I rolled over onto my back folding both my arms over my pounding head, pretending that its not actually morning and that I don't actually have to get up. With another groan, I dragged myself out of my warm comfy bed and down the stairs in hopes of locating some straight black coffee and aspirin.

As my I reached the bottom of the stairs the aroma of bacon and eggs hit me, making my stomach growl ferociously.

I entered the kitchen to find my best friend Eli standing over a stove where bacon was sizzling and my brother Michael sitting on a stool at the counter with his head down on the marble surface and his arms crossed over the mop of hair that was his head.

I slid into the bar stool next to him and a mug of hot coffee appeared in front of me, accompanied by the little orange bottle of aspirin.

I nodded at Eli gratefully and downed the coffee, popping two of the little white pills in my mouth.

"So Mikey, who should we expect to come wandering down the stairs this morning?" I teased lightly nudging Michael's shoulder. He was quite the lady's man amongst some of the younger females in our pack, so it wasn't uncommon for a half dressed young she-wolf to wander down the stairs after a party.

The only response I got was a muffled 'shut up' making Eli and I laugh.

"How about you Eli, any lucky ladies?" I say to him wiggling my eyebrows.

He just chuckled and slid a plate of food in front of me.

"Party pooper..." I mumble halfheartedly as I dug into the food in front of me. Of course I knew thought that he was waiting for his mate, a thing that not many wolves did these days. His mate would be a very lucky girl.

I watched Eli move about the kitchen as I ate, my thoughts settling on my best friend.

Eli and I had been inseparable ever since we were in diapers. He was an amazing friend, and an amazing beta. I couldn't remember a time in my life he hasn't been there for me. I know on a sub-conscious level that he had hoped we would be mates, and I know that I had a little bit to. But the moon goddess had other plans I suppose.

After I finished eating I stuck my plate and fork in the dishwasher, pouring myself another cup of coffee before climbing back upstairs to start the day.

Hangover or not, I was still an Alpha and I still had work to do.

Ava Sontiya POV

"Good try, again!"

My eyes scanned over my pack as they trained, my Beta, Faith, standing at my side making comments hear and there as our trainers and warriors worked with our youth and women

"Hey, I've been meaning to tell you, we've been invited to a party." I say glancing to Faith, awaiting her reaction.

I know I've captured her attention when her head whips in my direction.

"Did I just hear you correctly?" She exclaims incredulously.

"Yeah. I think we should go."

"Oh my goddess, are you serious?! This better not be some cruel joke!" She practically yells, making some of the pack members turn in our direction curiously.

I nod at them to keep training, assuring them everything is fine. I turned my attention back to Faith who was already rapidly firing off questions.

"Who's pack is hosting? What kind of party is it? Where is it? When is it?! Who's going to watch the pack while we are gone? Wait I AM coming right? What about--"

I interrupt her before she can interrogate me any further

"River Woods Pack, its the Alphas 21st birthday, so formal, its on the west coast somewhere I think, its this coming weekend--Im thinking we'll stay there the weekend, the party is on Saturday-- Megan will, and of course you're coming, did you really thing I'd attend my first event as an Alpha without my beta much less my best friend? Oh! And get this: the Alpha is a girl! Alpha Riley Evans."

"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" She says to me with a sly smile.

"Girl, I was thinking it before you were thinking it." I say giggling, dropping my serious demeanor.

She cheers jumping up and down while I just I laugh at her cheerfulness, praying that this will go well for us. Hopefully we could get into this Alpha's good graces and form the possibility of a pack alliance. Maybe even more. But in the meantime, we shouldn't get our hopes up. Let's just focus on surviving the weekend first.
