"I don't care about fixing anything," I say leaning back on my seat.
They both stare at me confused.
The one thing about this group is I never let them know me. I never let anyone inside my mind or understand how I thought. Every argument I had with Eva they always thought I apologised and fixed it myself. I never did. Eva just told them what she wanted to happen.
I said unmindfully, "She'll get over it."
"I don't think she's going to," Ellie told me. She then paused and gave me a look of concern. "Is everything okay with you? I know things have been tough for you with everything."
"I'm a billionaire. Life is perfect," I say forcing some hope into my voice. Anika let out a cackle, something she rarely did.
"Somethings up with you girl," She claimed still smiling, "Somethings also wrong with your head."
I zoned out as the conversation turned into holiday plans and classes, nodding along and pretending to care when Ellie was afraid she wasn't going to get the diamond necklace she wanted for her birthday.
I saw Avery dash up from the spot with Xander walking out the front doors. The table she sat at had been occupied by Thea Rebecca and Xander who were discussing the new mystery at hand.
Avery looked annoyed and a little worried that she wouldn't win. She had something I could use now.
"Hey, I have to go talk to someone, I'll see you guys later."
The two sets turned to me both believing it was Eva I needed to speak to. A little irritation and disbelief spread on their faces. They both chose my side and didn't want me to back down just yet.
"It's Avery," I gave them a knowing look, "I'm not speaking to her."
"Oh," Ellie said nodding her head, "The girl with the money, I see."
Anika's face flashed with second-hand embarrassment from Ellie's comment, "I'll see you in Advance Calc next period."
"Yep, see you."
It took me a while to catch up with her. For some reason, a million people wanted to get in my way today.
When I finally did she was standing by her locker with an expression of pure fear and simmering anger on her face. She was holding notes that someone had put in her locker. Some dumb school prank.
"Who threatening you," I say walking up.
She looks up at me appearing as a deer in headlights not saying a word. Gently I grabbed the papers out of her hand.
They were comments about what people were saying about her. I stepped around to look inside her locker which only revealed a photo of the interview her father did.
"Did you do this?" She asks putting on a brave face. I could see her cracking. She couldn't have another thing set her off.
I let my face form into a subtle frown, "Avery if I wanted to do something to you it would be a lot worse than putting a few comments from people on the internet in your locker." I looked back up to the photo of her father, "He can't do anything. You know that right."
"How do you know?" She croaked out.
I shrug, "When parents decide they want you again it usually takes a bit more convincing than an interview after their kid becomes rich."
She frowns like I've just stated the obvious, "I know that just-"
I cut her off, "Everyone gets the comments. Everyone has a psycho parent who wants your money. What you need to do is talk to Oren."
"I was going to."
"Good."
