Ghost in the Machine
A DC Comics x Ghost in the Shell Crossover Romance
Location: Tokyo, Japan – Near Future
The neon skyline flickered against the midnight rain, casting electric blues and purples across the sleek metal structures of the city. Major Motoko Kusanagi stood on the edge of a rooftop, watching the streets below. The city was alive, but to her, it was just another system to analyze, another code to crack.
A voice crackled in her comms.
"Major, are you seeing this?"
Batou's voice was calm but concerned. The Section 9 operation had gone sideways. They had been tracking an unknown cybernetic entity, an anomaly with a power signature unlike anything in their database.
"Yeah, I see it," she responded, eyes narrowing. The anomaly was airborne. A blur of white and red streaked through the sky, heading toward them.
Then, the rooftop trembled as something landed behind her with a solid thud.
Motoko spun around, gun drawn, only to find herself staring at a woman unlike any she had encountered before. Tall, statuesque, with striking blonde hair and piercing blue eyes, the stranger stood with an effortless confidence. Her white bodysuit, adorned with a red symbol across her chest, was unmistakable.
Motoko's grip on her firearm tightened. Superhuman. Metahuman. Potential enemy.
"You're not from around here," Motoko stated.
The woman smirked. "Nope. Name's Power Girl. You must be the famous Major Kusanagi."
A Collision of Worlds
Power Girl had been tracking an interdimensional energy signature when she found herself in this high-tech version of Earth. The Justice League had encountered breaches before, but this place was different—almost too advanced, even compared to what she was used to.
She had followed the energy trail to Section 9, but she hadn't expected to run into someone as dangerous—and fascinating—as Motoko Kusanagi.
The Major was all business, but there was something else beneath the surface. A quiet intensity, a wariness that Power Girl had seen in warriors before. But she also noticed something else. Motoko was studying her, not just as a threat but as... something else.
"You're enhanced, aren't you?" Motoko finally asked.
Power Girl chuckled. "More like naturally overpowered."
Motoko raised an eyebrow. "That remains to be seen."
Their chase for the rogue cyber-entity led them through the city—Power Girl using brute force, while Motoko used precision and tactics. Despite their vastly different abilities, they worked together seamlessly.
When the mission was done and the enemy neutralized, the two found themselves alone on another rooftop, the city stretching infinitely below them.
"You handled yourself well for someone who doesn't belong here," Motoko said, crossing her arms.
Power Girl smirked. "You're not bad yourself, Major. You ever let yourself take a break, though?"
Motoko turned to look at her, as if calculating something. "Not often."
"Shame," Power Girl said, stepping closer. "I think you could use one."
Motoko held her gaze for a long moment before finally—finally—allowing the faintest smile to cross her lips.
"Maybe," she admitted. "For the right person."
Power Girl leaned in slightly. "And what do you think? Am I the right person?"
The Major considered her for a moment longer. Then, without a word, she closed the distance between them.
The city lights burned around them, the rain fell in soft drizzles, and for once, neither of them were thinking about war, duty, or missions.
Just each other.
