Chapter 1: The Morning Come

The long night disappears as dawn approaches, with the blasting sound of an alarm clock playing in a particular person's head. Emile awakes to the alarm, exhausted and annoyed. She got very little sleep the night before and was in no mood to go to school that morning. Nonetheless, she got up, got ready, and headed to school. As she gets in the car and heads to school, her aunt notices her overly beat. "Are you alright?" she asks with concern in her voice. Distracted, Emile doesn't respond and stares out the window blankly. As they arrive at the school, she quickly grabs her stuff and gets out of the car. She turns around to say goodbye and walks into the school building. In the distance outside she hears "What took you so long?! How dare you abandon us for so long!". Emile chuckles to herself, knowing that it's her friend Scarlett. As Emile walks down, Scarlet walks up to her with confidence, looking like she could take on anything with her long, curly blonde hair tied up in a tight bun. Her ankle boots with a small heel under her dress pants and her polo uniform shirt tucked. As Emile arrives she says "You made me mature with these children for ten minutes! Ten!". "Well it's not my fault they showed up early for once," says Emile as she rolls her eyes.

Not too long after, Kev, Emile's friend since elementary, comes into view obviously looking just as tired as Emile. Her medium-length brown hair and bright green eyes stare at her happily from a distance letting Emile know that she's happy to spot her in the crowd. As the time grows later and later, everyone starts showing, -obviously not excited about it being Monday- but excited to see everyone. As time goes on, inching towards the morning bell, Emile's friends are talking and she sees a kitten in a box by the busy road. Noticing that the cat is very young and almost starved, she picks up the cat and wraps it in a beanie. "There there, I won't hurt you." She whispers attempting to comfort the cat. "Come on, I'll take you home, but you'll need to stay in my jacket pocket during school so I don't get in trouble." The cat looks up at her with bright blue and hazel eyes and falls asleep in her clothing. Emile puts the cat into her pocket, forgetting she left a piece of sushi in there. As she walks back to her friends, she feels movement in her pocket realizing the food she forgot was in the same pocket as the cat. She looks in her pocket and sees the cat devouring the sushi in her pocket. Emile chuckles to herself "I think I'm gonna name you Sushi." With this, she realizes the time and announces it to all her friends. They head inside the building and put their stuff away in the lockers. "Don't worry, I won't tell anyone about the cat."

someone says behind her. In shock, she shoots a look behind her realizing it's only Nico, her brother-like school friend. "Don't scare me like that!" Emile replies with irritation. "Well too bad. But I actually won't tell you about the cat. What's its name? Can I see?" Nico says with interest. Emile stays silent, debating if she'll let him. "Fine" she replies, "But don't tell anyone!" Emile opened her pocket to reveal the kitten.

There lays Sushi, sleeping peacefully in the fluffy, warm pocket. "He's so peaceful, you can tell he just ate" He replies in awe. Emile nods, not wanting to wake him up. The bell rings and everyone scurries off to class. With the first period being science, everyone pretends to pay attention. Emile sits with her friends Tony and Kev, knowing that at least one of them will know what's going on. As they talk, Scarlett walks to the table to talk to Emile. "What are you doing here, you have a table?" Emile says. "My tablemates aren't here yet." Scarlet replies.

"You do this every time."

"Yeah, because I don't want to talk to anyone else. I'm too tired this morning to actually have a conversation with people."

The bell rings and everyone takes their seat. The teacher starts her lecture and Emile, too tired and unable to stay focused, lays her head down on the binder and goes to sleep.
