Katelyn had always been the type of person who kept her feelings to herself. It wasn't that she didn't trust her friends, but there was something about Travis that made her heart race in a way she wasn't ready to confront. Every time he smiled, or made a joke, or even just looked her way, it was like the world around her slowed down, and for a brief moment, she forgot how to breathe.

But she would never admit it, not to him, and especially not to herself.

"You're staring again," a familiar voice interrupted, breaking through her thoughts.

Katelyn blinked, quickly tearing her gaze away from Travis, who was now looking at her with that playful smirk she had come to know so well.

"I wasn't staring!" Katelyn stammered, crossing her arms defensively. "You just-moved."

Travis raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced. "Sure. Whatever helps you sleep at night, Katelyn."

She rolled her eyes, hoping her blush wasn't as obvious as it felt. "You're impossible."

He chuckled, leaning back against the wall casually. "You know, I could say the same about you."

The banter was normal-playful, lighthearted-but there was always an undercurrent between them that neither dared to acknowledge. Katelyn knew, deep down, that Travis was the last person who would ever take her seriously. He was always so carefree, so wrapped up in his own world of teasing and jokes. But there was a quiet part of her that wished for something more-something beyond the jokes, the friendship, the easy camaraderie.

Katelyn glanced at Travis again, her heart doing that strange fluttering thing it always did when he was near. He caught her gaze this time, and for a second, there was silence. Just the two of them, looking at each other, not knowing how to bridge the distance that felt so small yet so impossible to cross.

"So," Travis began, breaking the tension with his usual irreverence, "wanna help me with something? I've got a plan, and you're the only one I trust not to mess it up."

Katelyn blinked, not sure if she was relieved or disappointed by his sudden shift in focus. "What kind of plan?"

Travis grinned, that mischievous spark lighting up his eyes. "A plan to get you to stop pretending you don't have a thing for me."

Katelyn froze. Her heart skipped a beat, and her breath caught in her throat. Had he just said-?

"Wh-What?" Katelyn stammered, her mind racing. "I don't-"

"Come on, Katelyn," Travis said, his voice low but teasing. "You think I don't know? It's kinda obvious."

Katelyn's cheeks flamed. She wasn't sure if she should laugh or run away, so she did the only thing that felt natural-she crossed her arms again, trying to act unbothered, even though her heart was pounding in her ears.

"You're delusional," she said, her voice firmer than she felt.

Travis just shrugged, still grinning. "Maybe. But I don't mind being delusional when I'm right."

Katelyn blinked, the playful words sinking in. Travis was teasing her, of course he was-but there was something in the way he said it, something in his eyes that made her wonder if he might just be serious for once.

"You're crazy," she muttered, her heart still racing. She turned away, trying to hide the flustered look on her face.

But Travis wasn't done yet.

"Am I?" he asked, his voice a little softer now, a little more sincere. "Maybe I'm just the first person brave enough to say what everyone else is too scared to admit."

Katelyn paused, her hand resting on the doorframe as she considered his words. She hadn't expected this. Not from Travis, of all people. She had always thought that maybe, just maybe, he could be more than just the loud, obnoxious guy who loved to joke around. But she never let herself dream of something like this. Something real.

"Travis..." she started, her voice barely a whisper, unsure of how to continue.

He stepped closer, his presence suddenly more intense, and for the first time in a long while, Katelyn didn't know what to say.

"Hey," Travis said, his tone gentler now. "No pressure. But I think you've got a lot more feelings for me than you're letting on."

Katelyn felt her heart do a somersault in her chest. She opened her mouth to respond, but before she could, Travis reached out, gently placing a hand on her shoulder.

"Take your time, Katelyn," he said with a soft smile. "I'm not going anywhere."

For once, she didn't feel the need to hide. Not from him, not from herself. The tension was still there, but it was no longer the weight of uncertainty. It was the beginning of something new.
