They always say the city is loud, but i had never heard it this quiet.
The clicking of my pen, trees moving with the wind and turning of the pages on my table were the only thing I could hear. It was mostly comforting to sit alone and hear all these sounds but it wasn't comforting. Not tonight.
I stared at the manila folder spread open on the table. Robbery, embezzlement, Drug dealing - the cases that I've been dealing with for the last 4 months.
My fingers hovered over my diary where I have solved them for over a hundred times now.
I called Mr. Rhodes, the HOD to tell him that I've already done the cases that i was asked to and now that I want an actual real case.
"Oh Blake hi why u calling rn?" He said while sounding drunk.
"Mr. Rhodes hey actually um i solved those cases that you gave me." I said wating for a response.
"U called only to tell me this?" He said.
"No actually I wanted to ask you this for a long time and I feel-"
"Just speak up Blake I'm already not in the mood for a conversation rn" he said cutting me off.
"Ok so I just want a real case that I can work on" I said in a breath.
"Well the cases I gave you aren't fictional " he said giving that old dad laugh.
"Yes but I know you understand what i mean please " I insisted.
"Listen blake-"
"Mr. Rhodes , either you give me a new high profile case right now or I'm resigning" I said out loud.
"Is that a threat? Listen blake- ok you want that let me give you that but if you didn't solved it before the last date that I'll give you, I will resign you myself. Now don't spoil the rest of my night"
*Beep*
I was actually feeling relieved to say that out all loud he was taking me for granted for a while now and I had enough.
My phone lit up with a message from Mr. Rhodes -
Case no. 638 (Elyssia Perez-washington DC)
*Attachment (Page 1 to 25)*
-Get it done in a month or else.
I ignored the message from him and opened the file in my laptop.
Elyssia Perez
34 years
Cause of death - Hypothermia....
I scanned the full page in a go and the adrenaline rush in me was so high that I wanted to jump out of the window due to the excitement of having a high profile case.
I scrolled down and saw the image of Elyssia, my pulse stopped.
"Oh my god!! No no this can't be true! Is that-"
