~•Chapter:~ 1•~

Start from the beginning

"Today's news is striking the country. The King, Siberias William Aikutia the VII (seventh), has announced that an Elective Monarchy will be taking place shortly. As the heir to the throne has reached of coming age to be wed and choose his Queen. Stay tuned for more."

I almost laughed, "Who would ever want to be married into that family."

"You'd be surprised actually."

I spun around, my fist raised and ready to attack the person sneaking up behind me.

"Woah, woah, chill." The man raised his hands in surrender.

I dropped my hands letting out a deep breath, calming my nerves. "I almost punched you Finn."

He chuckled shrugging me off. "Ah, come on. You have to admit it was funny. You looked like a scared chicken ready to peck me."

I laughed sarcastically. "Oh yes, so funny. Im rolling in the ground from how hilarious that was."

"On another note, why are you so jumpy? I didn't think I was that scary." He grinned nudging me with his shoulder.

"I was zoned out, and thought I was talking to myself because I believed no one else was around to hear me." I mumbled crossing my arms.

He looked around the town, raising a brow as he looked down at me. "You're in a town, there's always people listening."

"I hope you drowned the next time you go swimming in the lake." I moved on towards the end of town where the Gunsmith shop was. Finn works with me at the Gunsmith shop, which is how we became friends. He's annoying but he keeps me entertained and makes me feel happy.

"I think you would be the one to drown me honestly." He walked beside me his strides much longer than mine.

"Don't test your luck." I punched him softly in the shoulder before entering the shop.

The owner had just arrived making us on time for once. The screen in the main room was on, the news man still going on about the Aikutian family.

Byron, the owner of the shop, scoffed as he followed our gazes to the screen. "Ridiculous, aye?"

I nodded turning my focus to him. "I don't understand them I suppose."

"Eh, they're only parading around to rub it in everyone else's faces. Seems as if they got a thing for putting that boy on display." He grumbled wiping down the counter with a cloth.

Finn and I both exchanged confused glances as we sat down at the counter.

Byron noticed our confusion and laughed. "You can't tell me you don't think he's a puppet and they're holding the strings? That prince can't be doing those things on his own. Would you want to be forced into a marriage with a person you don't know? Or perhaps pushed around and held out for the country to see as if your some valuable prize?"

Finn shrugged shaking his head. "I guess I've never thought about it that way. I assumed with power came the will to speak freely."

"I agree with Finn, he could choose a different path but he stays on that one. For what reason? Power. That family is addicted to power. They're never in it for anything else." I slumped back in my chair.
