Aurelius Vesper

"Some secrets are meant to be uncovered, but not all truths are worth knowing."

The mansion loomed in front of me, its imposing silhouette carved against the night sky. I'd been told it was a hotel—a place where high-profile individuals gathered to escape the chaos of the outside world. But I knew better. This was no mere hotel.

Every inch of the place seemed steeped in a history I couldn't quite grasp, and yet, I felt its pull. I was here because of one thing: the Memory Code. A key to something greater, something far beyond my understanding. The weight of it hung in the air, and I could almost hear it calling to me, beckoning me to unravel its secrets.

I stepped through the grand doors, the polished marble floors gleaming beneath me. The reception was quiet—too quiet—but the faint murmur of voices reached my ears. I wasn't alone. Damien was somewhere here, lurking, and Elara wasn't far behind. But it was Seraphina Alveris who lingered at the edge of my mind, her name like a whisper I couldn't shake.

I'd seen her before. Or at least, I thought I had. But the woman I'd glimpsed through a hidden corner of my past was nothing like the one standing in front of me now. I had no idea what her role was in all of this, but I knew she'd be important. I just had to wait for the right moment to find out.

Every move I made felt calculated. Every glance at the mansion's intricate design, every sound in the distance, every creak of the floor beneath my boots—it all felt deliberate. It had to be.

I was no stranger to secrets, but this place? This mansion? It was full of them. And I wasn't sure whether I was prepared to face what I would find.

But one thing was certain: I would uncover the Memory Code, even if it cost me everything.

As I walked further into the mansion, the atmosphere thickened—like I was stepping deeper into a web spun from forgotten threads of time. The hallway stretched ahead; its high ceilings adorned with elaborate chandeliers that flickered in the dim light. Every corner seemed to hold a secret.

I could feel them, lurking in the shadows, watching. I couldn't shake the feeling that someone was always a step behind me. The hairs on the back of my neck stood at attention. Damien's presence was heavy in the air, a constant reminder that I wasn't alone in my pursuit. He had a way of moving silently, like a ghost, his eyes always calculating, always scheming. I couldn't decide if he was a threat or an ally.

Either way, I needed to keep my distance—for now. I took a deep breath, focusing on the task at hand. The Memory Code wasn't going to reveal itself. It never did. Every step forward was another puzzle piece, but so many questions had already formed in my mind. Why was it hidden here, in a place so isolated?

Why were Elara and the others drawn to it? I reached a door at the end of the corridor—etched with symbols that seemed familiar, yet I couldn't place them. They weren't just decorative; they were part of the Code, pieces that had been deliberately left for someone to find. Maybe that someone was me. Or maybe it was fate. I hesitated for a moment before pushing the door open.

The room beyond was vast, filled with a deep sense of quiet reverence. The walls were lined with books, ancient scrolls, and strange devices I could barely comprehend. This was more than just a mansion; it was a vault, holding centuries of forgotten knowledge. As I stepped further inside, my eyes were drawn to a large, ornate table in the center of the room. And there, laid out before me, was the first real clue—the first piece of the Code.

The engraving on the table shimmered in the dim light, almost as if it were waiting for me to activate it. I didn't need to study it for long. I knew exactly what it was: a map. But not just any map. It was a blueprint for something far greater—a map of memories, each one linked to a specific place, a specific time. I had no idea where it would lead, but I could feel the weight of it in my chest. Suddenly, a voice cut through the silence.
