Prologue

"How long has it been... It seemed like I'd been waiting for years... Where is this guy even at..."

I pull my backpack off my shoulder as I lay my back to the tree I came across. I reach in and take out a letter by someone long gone.

"I can't believe I'm even risking this. How did I even get here..." Something slides out my backpack as I lay it down "The mirror? I don't quite remember bringing anything else with me." I bring it toward my face and dust it off to reveal half of it cracked "When is the last time I even looked in the mirror like this."

Let's set the scene. One sunny day I was 18 and I lived in Etris, a city that resided on top of a somewhat large mountain. My eyes slowly began to rise as I heard shouting for my name. "Kestrel! What are you doing in there? Kestrel!" I woke up to see myself staring into my bathroom mirror.

Kestrel: "Uh- Nothing! I'll be right out. What was I doing here again... RIGHT!"

I had zoned out after taking a shower and stared into the mirror, I happened to feel lightheaded at the time, weird. I ignored the odd moment and moved on with my day.

Today was another errand run with my family. well not biologically related but it felt like a family to me. I took a big breath in, and I breathed out. I swung the door open, and all of the crew was there.

First is Jova Yuni, a Tiran girl with brown hair who happens to have the most skill with firearms, fitting for the bird-like race.

"Ey blueberry! Not having any problems there, right? Wouldn't want you to have a sudden bowel problem mid-trip!"

I gave off a light smile. "All good here, no worries". You might be wondering why I was called blueberry. It's because Adret's have naturally blue skin, but nobody really knows what animal our race is linked to. we call Jova a pinecone, also related to how she and her hair looks.

"Hey! Don't joke about that now, I don't want to have to deal with that." Henry Dalus. a blonde-haired versatile khan that could get you out of any combat related situation. He seems pretty tough on the outside, but he's not that bad of a guy. Historically, Khans are based on monkeys, so we call him chimp sometimes.

Kestrel: "Yeah yeah..."

I took a second to look around our base and notice the intelligent yet silent Ganymede Vyke Zeneke, always wearing a wide wizard-like hat with pitch black skin, abnormal for others but normal for his people. His quick thinking saved us plenty of times. Ganymede's are historically based on snails, so we call him hyper, based on the Hyperion variant. And lastly, we have...

Francisco Kesset. The greatest younger brother to ever live... also my only younger brother. He was sitting at a table with his foot up, blue haired like me with the only difference being our hair design.

He is definitely the leader of the group despite being younger than me, mostly because of his general skill being the jack of all trades. So, his codename was Virt stemming off of the word virtuoso, which is a synonym to the phrase. Adret's usually get to an age where they are wise enough that they gain tattoos on their face, neither me nor Francisco had them yet though.

Kestrel: "You're not dozing off, are you? We're basically ready to go."

Francisco: "I should be asking you that, but for your information I'm wide awake!"

Jova, Henry, Vyke, Francisco, and me. We were a foolish bunch of wannabe bandits, but they were the only people who I could turn to and trust. We began to walk out of the inn, and into the town.

Henry: "So remind me what you have us doing out here."

Francisco: "First we need some supplies. at least a glider for each of us, some food, and some water filled canteens. After that and some more basic stuff we're all getting on a boat to Erisia."

Jova: "You mean the place with overgrown sharks, giant rock golems, and occasionally deep owls."

Kestrel: "Those don't exist, Jova. well at least not giant owls."

Vyke: "If you're gonna exaggerate, atleast get their name's right. I believe the name of said shark is the 'Megalodaunt' also referred to as a 'Sharko'".

Jova: "Wow.. you know their names, big whoop buddy.

Francisco: "Guys i'll meet you at the docks, you can all individually decide who goes out to get what, but I'll go grab some food for us to pack."

We all nodded in unison as Francisco walked off in whatever direction the market's were. I had hoped to come with him because of my mediocre sense of direction, but It was already too late.

Jova: "I'll get us some water. I dunno what you guys are gonna do but figure it out."

Kestrel: "Can I just go with you?"

Jova: "Sure, why not."

Henry: "I'll grab some gliders."

Vyke: It seems I'm forgetting some items I require, I will return soon.

At the time I had no idea how big of a deal this was, after all I believed Erisia was just another island we we're sailing to oddly with more loot than normal. I had no clue what trials I was about to go through for the next 3 days.
