Liane sat in the school cafeteria eating her lunch while her friends chatted excitedly around her.
She couldn't help but notice Elliot, the popular student, sitting at a nearby table with his own group.
She had been infatuated with him for months, but had never had the courage to approach him.
"Hey." Someone patted her on the back while she was off concentrating on her food. Liane looked back to find her best friend- Jane.
"Jane?" Liane said, snapping out of her reverie and clearing her throat to break the ice.
Jane followed where Liane's eyes went, then tried to guess that Liane was interested in Elliot.
"You're interested in him?"
Liane turned her head and looked at her incredulously, then shook her head, "No." But Jane eyed her suspiciously.
"Your face says it all. You're lying, I know it."
"Fine. I'm interested in him." Liane said everything. Jane smiled broadly at that, then grabbed her shoulders and put her arms around her, "You can't lie, I know you." Jane said.
The school year passed and Liane found herself in the same class as Elliot.
One afternoon, after the dismissal bell had rung, Liane was still doing her homework and Elliot was still playing games on his mobile phone.
Liane was ready to go home, tidying up the messy books on her desk, carrying her bag and looking in the mirror she always carried with her.
Liane glanced at Elliot, hesitant to ask him out, but Liane pushed her ego aside and decided to approach Elliot's desk and stand next to him.
Liane cleared her throat before starting the conversation, "It's late. You're not home?" Liane's usual way of starting a conversation, especially since he was the man she was attracted to.
Elliot didn't answer for the first few seconds, until he finally put his mobile down on the table, switched it off and turned towards Liane, looking her up and down - who knows what he meant.
The astonished Liane looked up and down herself, "Is there something wrong with me?" Liane said as she continued to examine herself.
Elliot suddenly laughed at Liane's behaviour of examining her own body.
Liane frowned, confused with him, what did that mean? Why did he suddenly laugh? Is something wrong with you?
"There's nothing wrong with you." Elliot finally opened his voice, it turned out that his voice was soft when listened to closely, when compared to food, he was like a mashed potato, soft and delicious when eaten.
Liane gave him a slightly annoyed look, is this how your first conversation went? Very unmemorable.
With Liane already too lazy to answer, she finally decided to leave the classroom, ignoring Elliot who was still in there.
After going down the stairs, she walked towards the school gate, for some reason it was a bit spooky here because the sky was getting dark.
When he arrived at the gate, he saw that the gate had been padlocked by the school guard, his face now looking desperate.
Really? Padlocked!? It's late!?
Shit, shit, shit.
An annoyed Liane kicked at the gate, unaware that someone had tapped her on the shoulder, startling her to death.
"Elliot!!?"
Elliot just put on a nonchalant face, "What's wrong?" Looking at the gate, Elliot walked slowly towards it and noticed that the gate had been padlocked by the school guard.
